Hi all.

My 2022 Honda Passport Elite AWD is at 65K miles and its 2nd set of tires are nearing their end of life. Both sets have been the OEM Continental CrossContact LX Sport in 265/45R20. These tires have been satisfactory, but it would have been nice if they lasted a bit longer. My needs are a good all-season tire that's quiet and stable on long road trips.

I've been considering these tires for its next set:

• Continental CrossContact LX 25 (latest version of OEM)
  
• Michelin CrossClimate 2 (top of the line)
  
• Cooper ProControl (reasonably priced quality)
  

Just curious if you have any feedback on these tires I'm considering or if you had any other suggestions. The reviews of the 3 above are very good on TireRack. Thanks for your time!

No experience with those specific brands but I just had to replace my Coopers on my Expedition SUV which is 4wd when selected of course. I was recommended Falken tires by a member of my daughter in laws family who runs a large auto repair business. He says they have been putting them on all the Fed Ex and Amazon delivery vehicles with no reported problems. I wanted a more aggressive tire but did not want a lot of road noise. He put on the Falkens (can't remember the exact model right now) and although I only have a few thousand miles on them I couldn't be happier so far.

No experience with those specific tires but I ran a set of similarly sized Pirelli Scorpions on a BMW X5 and they were a big improvement over the stock tires. Quiet on the road and capable in snow. They were wearing very well when I traded the vehicle.

I put Michelin defender on my 4Runner. They are quiet, did well in snow, and wear like iron.

The only feedback I can give is word of mouth with those who would talk to me in the parking lots.

In my area the GoodYear Assurance Weatherready 2 seems to be a more notable choice than the Michelin CrossClimate 2. People have been very happy with the GoodYear tires. I talked with a guy at Menards because he had a van with Pirelli Scorpion Weatheractive tires. He said he's had the Michelins, and GoodYears on his van, but likes the Pirelli tires better.

I read a car magazine article years ago that proved that tread siping was the most important factor in tread design for an "all-around" tire. Siping are those little "cuts" or lines in the tread blocks.

To prove their point. they outfitted a couple of identical vehicles with 2 different types of tires. One had Michelin LTX M/S tires, and the other was a BFG all-terrain. Sand, snow, slush, mud, wet, and dry pavement. The Michelin outperformed the BFG. To validate their theory, they took a couple of off-brand tires with similar tread designs as the name brands, and repeated the test. The tire that had the most siping in the tread did the best.

If you are looking at Continental, look at the Extreme Contact DWS06.

Michelin Defender 2's are great all around tires that wear well. Handling is decent for most drivers as long as you are not expecting sport like performance.

Have had the Michelin Defenders from Costco on my Armada for over 40,000 miles. I've been very happy with the performance and they still look to have a lot of life left in them.

if you're not going off road, and you're not interested in 2 sets (summer/winter) this is the best tire you can put on any car where it snows with any frequency.

Falken is a very good tire, I'll be putting them on my wife's 4Runner later this year I used to love Hankooks, was a distributor for years but my last set didn't wear well.

Pirelli Scorpion Verde Plus 2. My go to tire now. Had them on 4 SUVs 3 Escalades and Palisade

Michelin Defender LTX M/S

I have used these tires on my GMC Envoy, my wife's Suburban and now on her Yukon Denali XL. They are great tires. Long tread life. Excellent performance in dry, wet and snow.

And when the OEM tires on my GMC Sierra need to be replaced, I will most likely buy these Michelins for it as well.

Thanks for the recommendations so far. Appreciate it. I have had the Michelin Defenders on a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the past, but this Pilot uses 265/45R20 size tires, which the Michelin Defenders do not come in. The 20" wheels tend to limit tire selection and raise the price!

Continental just came out with their own All Weather tire called the SecureContact AW that will be about Pirelli money with top shelf performance. I'm waiting for someone to do a test with them.

I put Crossclimates on my wife's Pathfinder. They have great traction in inclement conditions. Disadvantages are that they are louder, stiffer, and show a slight decline in gas mileage from the OEM tires. Those trade offs are worth it to me, they may or may not be worth it to you.

I would have run Michelin Cross Climates (all weather tire, not an all season, with actual snow/ice rating) on our Mazda CX9 from the beginning had they been available in the proper size.

They weren't at first, but I have used them since they were. Very happy with them. We live out in the sticks, so we run a mix of pavement and gravel roads. When it snows we usually aren't plowed right away, and what isn't plowed is packed down to a hard icy surface by time the plows reach us. They handle wet roads, and even standing water pretty well, and have worn great.

Another vote for the CrossClimate 2.

We had them installed on my wife's Mazda CX-5 last fall. Obviously can't speak to longevity, but on road they ride and handle well and have had good traction through a fairly harsh Michigan winter.

FenderBender's summation that these are pretty much the best option for those living in northern areas short of dedicated winter tires aligns with the reviews I've read.
