Here anyways, folks kept recommending KFC and i always told them nobody eats KFC except tourists and dummies.

When best fried chicken chain discussions come up its basically a Popeyes or Churchs question.

Was informed the recipe is different here, and if ANYONE knows fried chicken its Koreans, so i tried it and OMG, KFC would make a killing if the sold this shit in the US.

Probably costs more or has tons MSG but i dont care. KFC is still trash in the US but here its top notch!

Why eat at KFC when you have Kfc (assuming you’re still in Korea)? Original Kfc in Suwon is amazing. The chain Kfc places with varieties of yangnyum sauce are good but the mom and pop Kfc places (places that only make Kfc and the 3 menu items are 1/2, whole and beer) are some of the best fried chicken I’ve had.

I wasn't impressed with the KFC in Seoul. No different. I like it in the US, even though it's overpriced and underserved.

Good place to go when the cholesterol level is a little low.

Japanese KFC is also far superior to US version.

I leave it to others to debate whether the Japanese or Korean version of KFC is the besterest.

Seriously, that could start WW3.

Korean Fried Chicken is pretty bad ass and damn good, a bit different than American fried chicken but, good fried chicken is good fried chicken!

Besides going to your local Korean restaurant that knows how to do KFC, probably the most well known chain would be Bonchon's; they aren't everywhere but, when I spot them in an airport, I'm getting an order before my flight.

I gave in to massive missed-lunch-hunger about 3PM the other day while traveling, and put in for something at Sonics. Thought I'd try some "popcorn chicken" ; they were surprised when I didn't want any 'dipping sauce' with it. I should have taken the hint.

What I got was the worst handful of some fibrous & cartilaginous nodules coated with something resembling bits of industrial cardboard stuck to the surface & then deep fried in some mysterious way that removed any favor from any component of the creation, producing a resilient bite size wad of toxic debris that had no redeeming qualities and certainly was un-chicken like. It would move KFC away from 'worst chicken' by considerable.

Konata,
My favorite placw closed due to Covid, since then ive probably had 100 or more different places. Next time im down in Suwon ill give it a look. Rarely am i disappointed in any Korean yangnyum chicken. The Gochu/garlic is my favorite.

Otto, sounds like you’re developing quite the k-palate. Smile

Btw, I was watching a show and it sounds like abalone is vastly oversupplied there now and it’s selling for pennies on the dollar. I wish we had abalone here. Sounds like a lot of food there is cheap now. One wonders what people are eating there since consumption seems to have dropped dramatically. Instant processed foods?

In the past 5-10 years 편의점 음식 Convenient store food has become so popular its leading to increased obesity and a slow loss of traditional cooking methods. No different than my grandma's traditional cooking been lost over time.

The Japanese place down the street has a raw abalone ponzu that is fantastic! Abalone seems abundant now that you mention it but octopus is often sold out.

I'm trying to hit as much Korean BBQ as possible before heading to Maryland. Last night I had 양꼬치 lamb skewers. No idea how lamb can be made to be so tender and soft.

Speaking of which, I recently discovered 항정살 which is a little pricier than standard pork belly but also less greasy and when cooked right literally melts. It has the marbling of a ribeye but the taste and richness of pork. Come to find out its just pork jowls without the crispy skin. A monthly delicacy back home with Nanny's tomato gravy and biscuits.

The more i explore the more I swear Korean food is just traditional deep south food with more Gochukaru.

Went to Busan last weekend and tried some places there. I'm in heaven. But at the same time I'd kill for a real Hamburger after 2 years

I eat KFC about twice a year. Usually get the tenders. I am fine with it. I would love to try the Japanese version but my family trip to Japan is still another 10 years away.

I tell you for consistent good fried Chicken. Publix Deli has a pretty solid one. I think their 8 piece is something like $10-$12 or something. Always good & consistent.

Grew up in SoFla eating KFC but the real deal was Maryland Fried Chicken on Sample Rd in Pompano Beach. I just checked and its still open some 45+ years later!! Good on them!

Never tried Korean fired chicken but I think there is a place over in Chapel Hill that I will check out.

I finally got to try Korean fried chicken last year and WOW was that good. SUPER crispy without being dry, I think the secret is a lot of cornstarch (corn flour) in the dredge instead of regular wheat flour?
