PASigCBS to Cancel ‘Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ - in May of Next Year- Citing ‘Financial Decision’
He should have never lasted his first year, his ratings were shit then and he was kept propped up solely to bash George W Bush and then be an Obama puppet.
This cancellation is years late.

Maybe if we're lucky, they will move up the time table.

parabellumAs the saying goes, denial ain't just a river in Egypt. These people are having a hard time coming to grips with reality.

"There are shows out there that attack the left."
Yes, there are. Gutfeld, for example. Here's the difference they're missing- the Gutfeld show is actually funny. The host can be cringey with some of his jokes and his sometimes excruciatingly long pauses in an effort to milk jokes, but the show almost always has comedians on the panel and there is some really funny stuff to be had on that show. The show's ratings reflect this.
Colbert is just an obsessed, hate-filled little asshole, and only those who share his obsessive Trump hatred can stomach the shit on his pathetic show.

TigerDoreI've never heard of a network giving so much notice in cancelling an unpopular show. They either just don't renew it, or they simply drop it without notice.

darthfuster^^^^^^^^^^could be an appeal for viewership. This far in advance seems unusual.

rat2306Never watched his show, couldn't stand him on clips that I would see posted here or on YT. They probably would let him go sooner, but perhaps his contract is solid and has an early separation clause. He's not earning his pay by bringing in big advertising spots, etc. apparently.

gearhoundsColbert hasn’t been funny since he split from that asshole Stewart’s show. I remember when it was not a partisan shithole and everyone seemed to like it. Now only leftists find either of them remotely funny. If they both went down in a plane crash I couldn’t give a single fuck. Zero.

myrottietyI've maybe collectively in my life watched less than 5 minutes of any late night show with anyone. Never found them funny or informative.

About damn time...
Johnny Carson was funny. He made fun of politicians, of both parties. But politics was only a small part of his monologue.
David Letterman started out that way. He was funny too, until he wasn't.
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

220-9erThe media has blacklisted almost all moderate to conservative people so it's good to let them think this is why he's gone.
The truth is that's not why he's gone. He is working for a liberal company and they're losing too many viewers due to his not so funny commentary. Not even entertaining to liberal viewers anymore.
They gave him notice that he won't be renewed so that's sometime next year, not an immediate job loss.
If he were really such a great talent, he'd have plenty of time to find a new gig.

You might say that they can't be that stupid, but the fact is, yeah, they're that stupid.
I fell asleep before Gutfeld last night. Did he get good mileage out of this asshat's firing?

That's about it for me.
It used to be I'd wait up for Letterman. He was the darling of the 20 through 30 year olds. That was 30 years ago.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." That makes sense; the Left making a desperate plea to keep more of their propaganda on the air. Maybe an NPR-type fundraising telethon would help.

220-9er^^^
They are ending the show completely, not just Colbert.
No idea what they are replacing it with, but maybe late night shows of that format are past their prime.

parabellumThe history of CBS late night TV, 1972 to 1993:
The CBS Late MovieYou older guys (that's most people here) will remember that in the weekday time slot after late local news, CBS aired movies.
In my area, there were two CBS affiliates within range: KLFY in Lafayette, Louisiana, NTSC Channel 10; KFDM in Beaumont, Texas, NTSC Channel 6.
Fortuitously, the audio channel for NTSC channel 6 was on the extreme low end of the FM radio band and could be picked up with a conventional FM radio.
So, beginning in 1972, after 10:30 at night during the week, when I was supposed to be sleeping (except on Fridays, of course), I was listening to The CBS Late Movie and what a treat that was for a young film buff. I listened to more than a few movies before I ever saw them. Great, great fun. My parents couldn't understand why they had such trouble getting me up for school.
As the Wiki article points out, Pat Sajak had a show in that time slot beginning in 1989. Does anyone remember it? I don't, or maybe I do, quite vaguely.
