Kind a random question here, but SF has always come through before! My mom loves to eat arepas (Venezuelan corn flour pancakes, basically), and they are sliced lengthwise into two “buns”, so that butter or cheese can be added, or a variety of fillings (meat, veggies, etc). I’ve found that a serrated knife is best for this, and there is none better so far than this one, as she loves her Wusthof Classic knife set: Here’s my quest: that knife is deceptively large, with a 5.5” blade length. Ideally, I’d like to find someone with the skills and tools to cut the blade down to 4”, creating a new rounded tip profile like the original knife (this is critical, as mom is in her 70’s and prefers no point). Any idea who might be equipped to do this, and has the knowledge not to ruin the temper etc? I know the warranty will be affected, that’s ok! Also this is likely not cheap, I could buy a perfect knife, etc. I don’t care, I want *this* knife to be modified. Thanks!

You. Trace the end profile of the blade on some card stock, cut it out. Use the card stock you cut the shape of the blade out of to trace the new end where you want it, use a sharpie. You can use all sorts of things to cut the blade down, a belt sander, a bench vise and an angle grinder, or just a plain old file. The trick is keep the steel from getting too hot to touch. If it starts turning colors, you’ve lost the temper. Dip in cool water regularly, or spray with a water bottle, depending on how you’re doing it. It’s really straightforward. I’ve done plenty of this kind of stuff, everything short of actual knife making. Or you’re even reasonably handy, this is cake. No more difficult than reloading, I’d wager. Or, somewhere here can offer to do it for you. Like me. I have to tools, skills, and experience to do this. Or someone else, if you prefer. I’m sure others here will offer. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

There used to be a guy here who was a recommended knife sharpener, I believe his name was Albert. He worked out of Seattle, maybe Seattle Edge? He did exactly that and very well for a friend of mine who broke the tip off of a chefs knife. As I recall he is difficult to get ahold of and his turnaround times aren’t great, but he does really good work. Edit to add his website. Seattle EdgeThis message has been edited. Very simple; any knife maker can do this. Just need to not blow the temper/heat treatment when grinding. I haven’t seen Albert in many years, but that is my fault. I’m sure he could do the work if he is still in the biz. Albert Edmonds of Seattle Edge ... (Sig Forum member). https://www.knifesharpeningseattle.com/ Albert has done a lot of my kitchen / pocket (fixed a broken tip) knives, machete, hatchets and straight edge razors. Outstanding work.
