Fixed! I talked to Klipsch and they OK’d me taking the crossovers out to see what was what:
It turns out that just swapping the jumpers around on the outside of the low frequency cabinet is not the same as hooking the woofer up properly in the first place. Swapping the jumpers put the two woofers in phase, but it also meant the signal going through the woofer portion of the crossover was out of phase with the signal going through the midrange and tweeter portions of the crossover which really messed up the sound coming from that speaker. Now that all the wires are going the way they are supposed to, I’m getting goosebumps listening to them.
On the amp/preamp front, I’m thinking a used Marantz Model 30. It’s all analog, has tone controls, 100wpc into 8 ohms, 200wpc into 4 ohms, and a MM/MC phono preamp. Plug the WiiM Ultra in for streaming and the HDMI Arc connection.

I had a Seismic 12 running 1500/4500 but the amp died and you can't get parts. Lot's of these for sale for "parts only" on the internet. I got 14 years out of it.
My fronts are Studio 60 V1, center and dipolar surrounds are V2. I have some Studio 20 V1's to mess with too, maybe height channels.

IntrepidTravelerYour fix was a complex one. I had a speaker issue that was a really dumb user error.
We've been needing a new TV for quite a while, but were putting it off until we bought our new house. About a year ago, we bought, and we got a 90" Samsung with a Samsung sound bar. While waiting for new furniture to arrive (one of the pieces was what the TV was going to sit on), I set the TV and soundbar up on the fireplace hearth.
Well, it sounded like crap. I went into the settings and turned off the sound bar, and it sounded quite a bit better directly out of the TV. As it turned out, I did not peel off the plastic protective film from the soundbar. (I wanted to leave it protected until it was installed in the final mounting place.) It appears if the speaker grills are covered with plastic film, sound quality suffers. Who knew?
Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.

TonydecThey will get even better with some hours on them Trapper.
Some folks say that's BS, but it is absolutely true. Just considering the drivers, when brand new, everything is stiff and tight. When I first set my Focal Sopras up, they were not great. Not horrible, but not as full as when I demo'd them. I watched the drivers, and the woofer was barely moving. As they broke in the sound improved greatly. The woofers now move properly with lots of motion, which means they are moving much more air than when they were new and tight. I've experienced it with prior speakers too.
That is with new speakers. If they are used, they should already be broken in. If you research it, many manufacturers recommend playing bass heavy music for xx hours to properly break in the speakers. There are also claims that the crossover components also need the conditioning. I'd be surprised if that wasn't covered in your K-Horn manuals.

mark60Congrats on the successful speaker surgery, I'll bet they sound great with the Marantz feeding them. Give the cones time to loosen up and enjoy.

trapper189Thanks guys. I don’t know about ultimate, but this is the end of the line for me.
I helped my wife and her friend launch and retrieve the kayaks yesterday so I had a chance to listen to some music while they were kayaking. If you look at the pictures of where the speakers are, I’ll bet you can guess what I listened to. I could list a bunch of superlatives, instead I’ll just say I wish I could have done this sooner, but I’m glad I got the chance before my ears are shot.

I think I bought the "end of the line" speakers for me not too long ago, Devore Fidelity
Gibbon Super Nines. They are very nice, but certainly don't have the low end that yours do.

Is there anybody...out there....

Glad you got it straightened out, those are some spectacular speakers. Did the techs say anything about how the mis-wiring might have happened?

trapper189joel9507 got it.

Dark Side of the Moon is great and certainly worthy of listening to, but the wall is brick.

Actually, I just looked at the pictures and realized at the resolution I posted, it isn’t as obvious as it is in my mind that the wall behind the Klipschorns is brick. It kinda does look moon like in those pictures.
I sent the Klipsch customer service guy the pictures. In an email, he just said great and he would close the ticket.

Usually i just enjoy some covers but this is as good and true to the original PLUS the extra talent of those special players. See if you recognize them.
Here’s DSOTM also with top musicians. Some of my favorites.
Both are Billy Sherwood projects.

You have good taste, those are legendary speakers, excellent sound.

trapper189Got the WiiM Ultra today, hooked it up via TOSLINK to the Pioneer Elite receiver. We don’t have internet at the new house yet, but I was able to use my phone as a hotspot to stream Amazon Music in Ultra HD, their high res music. Listened to a couple tracks off DSotM and played with the WiiM’s built in DSP EQ a bit. It’s going to be a great streamer.
I missed out on the used Marantz Model 30, so I bought a used Cambridge Audio Edge A integrated amp instead which is supposed to show up on Monday.

0-0Although a big Yes fan (i’d run straight forthe Going for tbe One album), i think Supertramp’s Crime of the century is a great speakers experience.
Then, there’s always piano and saxphone. I love jazz

trapper189A buddy sent me a spare universal CD player he had when I told I bought the speakers. He sent me a couple SACDs he had, but he also accidentally left his CD of The Yes Album in the cd player when he put it in storage years ago. That was a nice surprise and sounds great. The Hammond organ inspired my next listening choice: what ever version of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor that came up on Amazon Music first. Goosebumps.
