Last weekend a good sized branch came down and took out a power line. We were out at the time, guess about twenty homes lost power for an hour.

The branch was left about halfway across our driveway. The chainsaw wouldn't start, I ran it about a month back. Headed down with hand tools in 100+ heat index and it wasn't happening.

I have some good tools and bad ones. I snaked about 75' of line down the hill and through the brush and plugged in my (wait for it) HARBOR FREIGHT electric pole saw! Tiny blade, goes through bar oil in about a second and half but I keep it sharp and it did the job. I'll guess the main branch was 8-10".

I'm tearing into the Shindaiwa, sourced new carbs and other parts as needed, hoping for the best. If I fail, I'll get an estimate at the dealer I got it from. If prohibitive, new saw.

At the time I got the Shindaiwa, I saw all the local golf courses were using the brand. As that was the only convenient dealer of quality equipment, I went with it. It replaced a home store level McCullough (sp?), a real POS.

Since then a Stihl dealer opened up so I've got good support, they also carry Toro which has been handy for my contractor grade mower. I'm really hoping I can get my saw going. I'm sure Stihls are as good or better but looking at the chain drive system on mine, it's beautiful and bullet proof. Like most here, I imagine ethanol is the problem.

Bad coil. It produced a spark but not enough I guess. I don't have a coil/spark tester. All I could go by was measuring resistance across given points on the coil but I couldn't find any service info on the unit to gauge the readings I got.

Easy install of new coil, decent ebay price all considered, saw humming right along now, thanks all.
