Legally, the easiest, and probably beneficial thing, would be to require a social media site to avoid storing anything produced by a minor - this would tie in well with existing legal protections/give them some way to review those contracts as adults. (Obviously minors can act in movies, model clothes, etc - but there are all manners of legal protections for those kind of contracts.) Or, require everything on social media be archived/deleted every X years, unless requested otherwise/an account used by a politician in an official manner. .

While I understand the need to protect children from the consequences of social media, this effort will be used to confirm the misdefined so called fascism of the also so called right wing to the low info types that populate this culture. There’s got to be a better way to do this without the ban hammer which will surely rebound into the faces of those who advocate for it. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

We need to also make sure that we are giving them unfettered access to booze, cigarettes, pot, abortions, sex reassignment surgeries, tattoos, high interest credit cards and loans, you know cause of Rights and stuff. Remember, it’s better to be able to claim that you’re right than to actually do the right thing.

Right. Because me saying that I think I can choose for my own kids means that I want them to have complete unfettered access to all the nonsense you just posted. God forbid I dare try to raise my kids without the governments help. I don’t need the government to keep my kids off of YouTube. I’ll handle that. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

That is a bs answer. You don't need the government help to raise your kid if you lived on a freaking island in the middle of the ocean and ate off the land. You don't. You live in an island of humanity that is barely held together by some basic common goals and ideas. You absolutely use the government to "help" you raise your kids. I could name a hundred ways. We are cherry picking one way, barring social media use, and then saying "I don't need no stinking help". That is nonsense. You might not think you need it but you certainly have taken it. Like most everything in life, raising kids has the functionality of the basic onion, the more layers the better. You watch your kids, your wife watches your kid, your extended family, their teachers, coaches, friends, blah blah blah. Having a legal layer to protect your kid from outside harm shouldn't be frowned upon because "I don't need help". Well, you wouldn't be the first parent to miss something. Any help in the correct direction should be at least considered before discarding it.

I'll just say this. I'm around a lot of kids. All day, everyday ( 5 to 6 days a week ). I'm around kids of preschool age to senior in high school. All races, religious, and economic backgrounds. I can tell you that parents that keep/have control over their children electronics ( phones/tablets/chromebook, etc. ). Is a very small minority. The type of things these kids are watching and sending to each other will blow you away. There are a lot of parents that either don't care,or don't know. I can usually tell when a parent/s are involved in/with their children, the children usually behave better. I don't know what the answer is, but restricting access to social media for minors doesn't sound like a bad idea. They are minors, there are already restrictions on them ( though not enforced most of the time ). ARman
