We have a Maytag top loader washing machine that is about 12 years old. Recently started to go bad and was told the mainboard for it is bad however it is no longer manufactured and no longer available anywhere new. However we can purchase either a used part on E-Bay for about $75 but not know how long it will last or refurbished part for $150 that is guaranteed to work for at least a year. What happened to Maytag dependability and availability of parts ??? I am guessing they are made in China and have the ** Planned Obsolescent ** design. What brand of Washer would you all recommend and are any made in the USA anymore ??? Thank you for reading and any info given. God Bless !!! Smile

I would stay away from Whirlpool. We have a Whirlpool front load and it has been serviced 4 times in 6-months with pump finally replaced. Now it walks all over the floor when using it. We have NOT had any luck with any Whirlpool product.

Do you know the part number?
It is always helpful to state the model number when asking a question. Frown

You can thank government mandated energy efficiency mandates.

I wouldn’t recommend Speed Queen based on the four months it took them to send us the parts to fix our analog dryer. We bought a new dryer after waiting one week for parts. It was a good call.

Indeed.

Made in the USA.

And their Classic line TC5 model is made to old school commercial washer standards, with robust non-digital analog/mechanical parts that last a long time and are easily replaced.

Their TC5 washer has one ultra-efficient cycle (labeled "Normal"), to allow them to meet government mandated water/energy use standards, since the .gov only cares about the overall average of water/energy use across all cycles for a washer. But Speed Queen only recommends using the Normal cycle for small loads, like when you only need to wash a couple towels or a few shirts at a time.

Whereas all their other cycles are just like the old pre-EPA washers with plenty of water use, and they even have the option to toggle on an extra deep/full fill. Plus they still have an actual agitator like God intended. Put those together, and it means your clothes actually get clean like they did with a pre-efficiency washer.

The only real drawback is that its capacity is on the smaller side by today's standards at 3.2 cubic feet, so if you're one of those folks with eleventeen kids who change clothes three times per day apiece, then you might have to go with a not-quite-as-good washer from a different brand with a larger capacity. But 3.2 cubic feet is plenty for a washer serving 1-3ish people.

If that was within the past two years, you'd have likely run into the same thing with parts for any dryer, unless you were lucky enough to find someone who just happened to have a spare part laying on a shelf. That was the reality of sourcing replacement parts for just about anything during the height of the pandemic, even for domestically-manufactured parts. If those parts had been coming over from Asia, or involved a computer chip like modern digital dryers, 4 months would have been generous during the pandemic.

Another enthusiastic Speed Queen fan. Ours has sold at least 4 other ones. Two of them to a cat shelter in Ga that runs them all day washing towels and bedding.

Whats the washer model that goes with this washer?

Back to the original question.
If you have the actual circuit board in your hand and can find the part number there, do a search for it that way too. Some of these may be used by other brands and you could stumble onto a better deal that way.

I assume you mean dryer model?

That'd be the DC5, their Classic Series dryer.

We recently purchased a Maytag 5.2 cubic ft. "smart" washer with an impeller. We like it a lot although we will never use the "smart" functions.

Don't ever buy a Kenmore washer! We have had to replace 3 plastic hubs in the last two years. The fourth time it went out on us we just bought the Maytag. We did consider the Speed Queen but ultimately decided against it.

Our first Lady Kenmore lasted 18 years. They don't make them like they used to!

Thanks, a senior moment.
This sounds like what I need and I'm on a well so no water bill issues.

We have a Maytag brand front-loader bought 2018. The controller board (which in this washer includes the front switch panel) has gone clinically insane. Part is on back order EVERYWHERE.

I presume it's a supply chain issue with chips.

We are still on a Kenmore dryer 20 years later but the Kenmore washer went out about 2-years ago
