there are some here the do almost monthly purchasing or sales in the classifieds .

I was just wondering,
Are most of the exchanges right at normal retail prices?
or are most of the exchanges done below retail pricing?

If I offer anything for sale, I usually give a Sigforum discount. The transactions are usually very trouble free, so I like to pass the lower risk to the members here in the form of lower prices.

I never pay retail....

Usually it is about getting something you want for a decent price,.... and no sales tax. And you are helping out the seller by the transfer of an item to another stash/horde. At least, it makes me feel better to think that way.

Anything I sell is below MAP pricing since it's not publicly advertised (Private Forum) Many times at cost plus the shipping.

I buy and sell quite a bit in the classifieds. Even talked with you a time or two Eek

Am a regular contributor in other categories here too Razz

It is a safe place to do business first a foremost.

There is almost never an issue.
We tend to offer some unique items from time to time too.

I think pricing is very fair, but the buyer dictates the purchase clearly.

How's that B?

so yes most are right at or close to retail ?

or
most stuff gets sold lower than retail because the seller needs to unload it?

I'd assume lower. It's mostly used stuff.

I've sold dozens and dozens (and dozens) of guns over the years and have lost money on every single one of them. I look at it as rent.

I think I've MADE money on 3, maybe 4 guns. I did because they were on an auction, somewhat rare and got bid up. I've never listed a gun for a straight sale for more than I paid.
I also don't inflate my original asking price to have room to haggle.

I've only bought one or two things, but I feel like I got a good deal. And it was both hassle and worry free, I had no qualms about sending the seller my money and not getting a satisfactory item.

I've gotten some good deals and given some, too.

I really haven't spent much time in the classified section.

So, here's a follow-on to Bendable's question: Is it appropriate to post links in the classified section to third-party businesses?

My SIL recently quit his day job, and is in the process of spinning up a non-gun related entrepreneurial effort focusing on bath and hygiene tools and products. Would it be appropriate to put a link in the classified section to his web page?

Thanks,

Sap

The classifieds are for our community. If your SIL is part of our community, or provides something that our community clearly benefits from, then from what I've seen, it should be okay.

But I personally wouldn't want to have to scroll past advertisements from a bunch of randos to get to the stuff being sold by our forum members.

Also, transactions must pretty much take place here in this forum. If you post in these classifieds, be prepared to monitor your thread for replies, questions, and sales.

I think Para has made it clear that use of the classifieds is limited to participating members of the forum. By that I think he means people who regularly post in sections other than just the classifieds.

I have sold (and purchased) "a lot" of items in Classifieds. Never felt screwed, and expect that anyone who has purchased from me could say the same.

Regarding pricing, I'll be the first to admit I am seeking a "deal" when I shop Sig Forum Classifieds, but I can also tell you that I price my items more than fair, often to a loss.

I've always been happy with the outcome that way.

I've bought and sold quite a bit in the classifieds. Anything I have up for sale is priced to be a good deal for someone. I've always felt I got a good deal on anything I bought too.

Agree with 12131 however, when I sell, which is very seldom, I almost always get someone who will email me a ridiculously lowball offer and I politely decline. The last thing I listed was 3 brand new HK 45 full size magazines still in the wrappers. Someone offered me $80 for all 3 shipped. I declined.

I will usually sell below retail but I'm not going to give the stuff away.
