Found a 30GB iPod at my parents place. Specs say it's a 1.1.5 version, looks like a cameraless iPhone 3 series, silver back. Fiddled with it for a while and couldn't find where it says to what Apple ID it's related. Tried installing current iTunes on a W10 machine and it wouldn't recognize it. Wondering if I should set up an older OS machine and find an older iTunes version to update the firmware. It would be useful and practical if I could figure the correct Apple ID so I can start searching for a way to recover the password. The little thing looks quite new but haven't located a box or other accessories. Have the proper cables from my old iPhone 3 and iPad with large connectors. Messing with the reset option I erased all contents, now I only have the Gioconda background screen laughing at me. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

I've had no experience with that old a version, but have you tried going to Settings, and see if any Apple ID is signed in to iCloud, App Store, iTunes, Messages, Facetime, Game Center, or any of the various services that require an Apple ID. If there is one anywhere, sign it out and then log into iCloud with your own ID, or just leave it signed out in all Settings where it would appear. Older versions of iTunes can be downloaded here, but some of the older ones may require an older version of Windows.

the apple ID is usually your email, so maybe it is your parents email.

Already looked for the Apple ID where I thought were the usual places. The email account was my sister's Hotmail. Working on reseting it's password just uncovered yet another email account I had not seen ever before. Leads that bring new questions instead of answers... This model does not tell whose account it's linked to in the Settings/About page. Must check again if the Apple Store asks for password. Surprised not to have an iTunes installed in any computer but it seems my sister had one personal laptop and her tablet "indefinitely borrowed" by her acquaintance s after her misshap. The iPod had just music on it, no extra Apps. Mail was configured but no contents. It's quite basic, likeky was used just as a music player. Large capacity and quite responsive since it was not bloated with apps. Thanks for the ideas, will likely use the link to get me an older iTunes and put it on an XP machine. I love this kind of challenge, when I succeed. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

There is a potentially direct way to identify it- If you have each of your potential family owners log into your AppleID account there is a page that lists all "devices" associated with that account. It will look like this- ![]() You can click on each device and it will expand to give you the model, version, serial number and other info. That iPod should be tied to one of your AppleID accounts. Also, here's the Maximum iOS Support for iPods up to the 4rd Generation- iPod touch (Original/1st Gen) iPhone OS 3.1.3 1 iPod touch (2nd Gen) iOS 4.2.1** 1 iPod touch (2nd Gen/2009/8 GB) iOS 4.2.1* 1 iPod touch (3rd Gen/32 & 64 GB) iOS 5.1.1 1 iPod touch (4th Gen/FaceTime) iOS 6.1.6* 1 iPod touch (4th Gen, 2011) iOS 6.1.6* 1 iPod touch (4th Gen, 2012) iOS 6.1.6* Good luck!

The music on it, I do not think you can move it off to a different computer. Reset may be easiest. Apple Music is not supported until Gen 5. I have a Gen 4 Touch and an '04 Classic.

Apple has no official presence in my country for the past 15 years at least, therefore we're not much enlightened in their products use. We do not share anything computer related, Rinehart. Found a folder on one computer with the music and backed it up so I had no problem resetting the device and losing its (musical) contents. There was nothing else on it. Still clueless as where will I find an iTunes/Store validated account but methinks it will not be on this device. It let me reset it without asking for an Apple ID but I've now noticed it says my sister's name in the About section but there's no way I can find to edit it as I would do with a regular iPhone. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20
