I am. I like my job. After all these years, I still love working cases. And I’m aggressive about it and take great pride in it. I rarely sit at my desk and screw off. So much so, I never spend any time at my other office at all other than when required. I’m always at the top on all the stats. I’m usually the first in and last to leave. I put more hours in than anyone else. And it’s all a matter of personal pride at being good at what I do.

Does anyone else love to hit it hard?

Yes. I can't help it; it's my nature. I do the best I can whether it's called for or not.

I did it for 33 years. I seriously damaged my health. Now, I plug along part time, 15 or 20 hours a week, low stress, low ambition, I just work for a hobby. I tried a few time to effect improvements, until my line supervisor said, "If the bosses don't care, I don't care." That's now my work mantra.

I make coffee. Therefore, I grind.

When I was getting my business off the ground, I worked 12 hrs a day.

Now that there are more people and the business is off the ground and more or less successful, I only work about 8-10 hrs / day.

Before the scamdemic, I was in by 8:15 every day, leaving 5:30 - 6.

More flexible hours currently.

Pride in what you do makes you work harder and smarter.
As a student of business I recognize that when I see it at always appreciate it.
And always been my philosophy too.

I do as well. I am in construction, did barge and tug work for 33 years, mostly doing piling work. My body finally took a shit from always being the go to man, whether it was hanging upside down welding to doing whatever it took to make sure our job was top notch and being the best of the best at what we did in our area. When I couldn’t do it anymore, they said hey how about if you just drive truck, moving equipment or hauling stone or whatever. I said hell yes, I’m still a “grinder” , there early every day, semi or dump truck or trailer is always up to date on maintenance and clean. I’m fortunate they offered me the position at what I was making and doing a lot less work for it. After almost 37 years for the same company, I enjoy going in every day. Sometimes being a “grinder” pays off..

In my department there were 2 of my position until April of this year when my counterpart was laid off. At first it wasn't awful because half of the department was laid off too, but we've slowly ramped up again to the point where we're now doing 7/8 of the business we did prior to the layoffs.

We were finally given the go ahead to hire another of my position but then it was taken back to hire a different position, mostly because I'm handling the job as well as I have. I'm now in the position that I've done so well it's expected and I'm a victim of my own hard work. The job is very difficult to do but I somehow manage to keep afloat; however I can't sustain this long term. I've heard rumblings that a raise and promotion are on the horizon but I'm not holding my breath.

Like you Jones, I loved policing. Especially when I was a B&E detective...got wind of who the new supervisor was gonna be and I went back to patrol. We were lucky at my department they usually let us investigate our own cases if you showed the knack. But there is something about just showing up and separating pookie and ray-ray from fighting over a bottle of old E. Ha!

When I retired fully half of the people were RODs (retired on duty) the other half of patrol was millenniums who couldn’t stop a fight between a one legged man and a drunk.

Now I pick up my kid from school and play with a few guns to keep my time busy.

I fit the description, too, but like to think of myself as more of a sub hero, than as a grinder.

Right here, minimum 60 hours per week and that’s if I’m feeling lazy. My M-F alarm goes off at 3:15 AM and I’m at my desk by 4:30.

I don’t really consider it stressful for the most part, I more take the approach of “I’d rather be here doing everything I can to keep the doors open, plus I’d rather be making money at this stage in life (49 years old) than out there spending it”.

This the thing that I’m best at in the world. I’m good at my job but what makes me a top salesperson in my company is embracing the grind. I’ve always been this way. I was a mediocre athlete in high school and college but made all area/ all state by the virtue of hard work. I can’t imagine being any other way.

Only job I have really ever had. I had a Office job for six months once and I hated it. I don't work 12 hours shifts or nights any more. No more Cop or Security work for me. I am getting to old. I do have to be on call once a week every month. That isn't too bad.

I used to be that way. Years of being used and abused broke me of that shit.

I get in early, do what I can toward my goals, help my crew, and aim to get out on time. It's not unusual that I do "second shift from the couch."

Having a good crew and a fun job makes it easy.

I am more inclined toward sporatic exhibitions of brief but intense greatness.

I used to be that way and once I had kids my wife had a sit down with me about it. I instead tried to become more efficient while trying my best to keep it as close to 40 hours a week.

I work in a place that has basically had unlimited overtime for the 30 years I have been there and try to equate hours worked to being a hard worker. The guys that put in a ton of OT usually have miserable home lives so I'm glad I took her advice. I should have done it much sooner.
