Waiting for Hachiko |
Have never used a game camera. Just seeking advice, perhaps will purchase one in the future, not for viewing game , but surveillance. Would a game cam serve this purpose? Some jerk is tossing trash out in my yard, same location just about every night. I live in a rural area, and keep my yard nice, lot of road frontage. Mostly local traffic, so it has to be some one living in the area. Haven't pissed anyone off, just curious, on who keeps littering, and not sure where to go with it if I find out. So, if I buy a game cam, set it up , hidden to monitor my yard , would it work or be useless? 美しい犬

You can possibly get a license plate, vehicle and/or general description from one. Along with the time of night it's occuring. Don't be surprised if it's your next door neighbor. I am imagining some dude returning from a late shift consuming a few beers before he goes into his house. I'm not sure I'd advise a live confrontation over something like this, given the uncivil climate as of late. You could choose to hang around at the time you anticipate it happens, I suppose, and see if it inhibits them. I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11 ...But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory, but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. - Psalm 63:11 [excerpted]

More of an annoyance, than anything. It"s not random, as the bottles are always in my driveway or adjacent. Probably a futile idea, as a game camera probably wouldn't record a bottle being thrown from a vehicle. I'm 250' back from the country road. Curious, what is the range of a game cam? And how long do they record? As stated. I"ve no experience using one. 美しい犬

My buddy deals with game cameras on a lease in IL. We used to have the traditional ones, now they are high tech. These new ones have a ‘cell plan’ & send a picture immediately, as opposed to reading the card. If it’s near your house you could skip the cell type & go with an electrician card reader. They take pictures day or night, many use them for security now. As to what exact type look at reviews.

OP - that sounds like something a critter (raccoon?) might do. Have you considered placing a brick on the trash cans' lids? Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. No, that possibility can be ruled out. 美しい犬

Set your alarm for a random times and see if the trash is out there. That will help you narrow down the time it is occurring, assuming it is not random which it sounds like it is not. If you prefer to avoid a confrontation - record it and submit to local PD. I had a similar issue at my previous residence and simply submitted the video footage to the PD - and pointed them to the home where the vehicle was housed (4 homes down). Turns out it was neighbors 19 year son - who was also underage. (JD bottle, beer cans, Mad Dog - didn't even the still made that)

Your going to want one with he quickest picture triggering time. If its a vehicle you might get a blur with a cheap one. By the time the camera "wakes" the vehicle will be past. Dont expect to get a legible license plate.

I have a number of them on my property. Both to catch the critters that enjoy the area but to catch anyone doing what they shouldn’t. Mine are capable of both picture and video. I have them set up in different areas. I have one placed in such a way that it does an excellent job of giving license plates crystal clear for every vehicle that comes on the property. It gets them on the way out too so I can determine how long they were there. The Coyotes love this spot for some reason around 2am so it picks them up a lot. Also have them that hit the front and back of the cabin. There is very poor cell service in the area so the cell ones are not feasible for me. The electric needs to be redone at the cabin and I do not trust leaving a small system setup when no one is there. I get about 3 months of pics and video on my 32GB cards if needed. This is at the highest resolution picture and video. 15 second video clips and 3 pictures taken per motion trigger. Granted your results will vary based upon how much motion your camera sees. But being your house a frequent card swap would not be an issue. For me when winter hits it can be 5 months before I can get to the property. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

Look into the "no glow" units if you are dealing with two legged critters. No glow utilize night vision emitters that are invisible to the human eye (no red glow in the dark). I have a Bushnell Agressor no glow and a Stealthcam NG45 max. Both work well on two legged critters. Both are programmable. Get as high a resolution unit that you can afford.

Very good advice. I have a friend who set one up to monitor their farm. It was stolen , no doubt due to the red light showing. I think I will order this model: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c...am_hd_aggressor.htmlThis message has been edited. Last edited by: Sunset_Va, 美しい犬

Editing an old thread I ordered the Bushnell Agressor today with some accessories. The littering stopped for a few days but started back up yesterday. But, I can use the cam for surveillance also, so it will be useful. 美しい犬

I was unsuccessful in identifying miscreants who littered my front yard with a game camera. Response time to car motion was too slow. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

Appreciate your input. Even if I am unsuccessful in indentifying the vehicle, the game camera will still serve another purpose. Were your images blurry? This is not random littering, as it's in the same location each time. I wonder if someone parks at the driveway, and is scoping out things at my house late at night. My dog kennel is between my house and the road. My dogs would raise an alarm at strangers, provided I hear them. I worry some one may harm my dogs. They can steal items from me, but you better not harm my dogs. 美しい犬

A guy once told me he didn’t really think of tossing crap on immaculately maintained lawns as littering because he knew the property owner was going to pick it up promptly, so it wasn’t like throwing it in the woods. I was speechless for a moment.
