PASigJohn Fetterman
Para had mentioned it before a day or so ago but the rumor is that John Fetterman may end up leaving the Democrat party and switch to Independent or even Republican. I think the far left of the Democrat party which seems to be most of them now unfortunately are furious with him and plan to primary him in 2028.
I just saw this too so something is up for sure:

Rey HRHEven though his vote wasn’t needed it does make a statement about himself and, more importantly, the Democrat senators.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

chbibcI've always thought Fetterman looks like an evil professional wrestler.
If I recall, he had a stroke and there was much debate about his mental faculties. How has he been functioning lately, normal or Bidenly?

bdylanSane democrats can be some of the most powerful people in DC during Trumps second term... especially democrats in the House from districts Trump won. I would guess Fetterman is monitoring how democrats react going forward and would stay with the party if they move back to the center.

nhracecraftWell, while he's still a Democrat, his actions/positions/statements seem to be rational for the most part. He 'almost' seems to be on our side when you compare him to many RINOS, such as Collins or Murkowsky, to name just a couple!

KevHI have to say John Fetterman just keeps surprising me.
He has been a strong supporter of Israel and seems to be one of the last Democrats left that has an ounce of common sense and decency.
I would not be surprised if they do what they did to Tulsi Gabbard to him. We see how that worked out.

vinnybassI must say I was skeptical about this guy at the outset, and figured he was on a quick trip into the crapper of history.
I don't care for his sartorial choices, but he generally seems more level-headed than anyone else across the aisle. Surprising, even to me.
It must make the dems nuts.

sigmonkeyGiven the way the GDCs (including those on "our side") have shit all over this Republic, the Constitution and most importantly, We the People...
I really cannot get spun up on his decorum when it comes to dress.
And "coalition" is good, and I trust Trump to manage such with astute aplomb.

RipleyIt's my understanding his wife is hard, hard left so I'll keep my expectations low on a party switch until it happens. I guess it could explain the shorts if she wears the pants in the family.

92fstechFetterman did an interview with Joe Rogan a month or so back. It's an interesting listen. He's not what I'd call a conservative, probably more of a blue-collar traditional Democrat. I definitely don't agree with him on everything, but he's not completely illogical and he's got the stones to speak his mind even when it goes against his party. I have to respect him for that. He still has some struggles related to the stroke, but he seems to be way more with it than Biden.
He seems like a dude that I'd be alright sitting down and having a conversation with, and I respect his honesty. If everybody in Washington were like that regardless of party, we'd be a lot better off. I'm not sure I'd want him as my elected representative, though, simply due to policy disagreements.

Exactly. Whatever he does, it's for re-election purposes. It would be far easier to run as a Democrat since he already has support. But if he thinks he will be primaried, and can't win, he'll switch. It's all about him and his chances.
The Pennsylvania Democrat senator told Semafor talk about a potential flip to the GOP is “amateur-hour s‑‑‑.”
“If they think, ‘Oh, it’s going to be like a Manchin or a Sinema play,’ that’s just not true, and that’s not going to happen,” Fetterman said to the outlet via reference to former Sens. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.), who began their careers as Democrats but retired this year as Independents.
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

ArtieSWe have a two party system, and as much as many of us dislike one of those parties, they aren't going away.
Since we are stuck with them, I'd much rather do business with a guy like Fetterman, who seems to be fundamentally sane, and possess some common sense, than the AOCs of the world.

His views came across as a traditional Blue Dog Democrat, an endangered species and one which many of the far-left would like to eradicate from the party. One can only surmise that during his short time on the Hill and in the Senate chambers, has revealed to him a perspective that's adjusted his political outlook on his fellow party members and likely ostracized him from a variety of political cliques.

It looks like it has been a gradual, continuous progression. When he was first elected, he could hardly speak and looked about as aware as Biden, and he had a very leftist stance.
As the fog has cleared he has become more articulate and moved toward the right (or center), which means the Dems will try to throw him off the bus at some point, just as they did with Tulsi Gabbard, Joe Lieberman, RFK Jr, etc. He will be primaried, unless he falls in line.

ElToroGlad we got Hegseth confirmed. senate is back to full staff 53-47, but Rubio was 99-0 ? Did they add the JD or Rubio replacements today ?
Interesting about Fetterman. We'll see about his party but Fetterman has denied it. Would be nice to see him at least dress appropriately

I have seen no reports that the confirmation vote has even been taken. Thune said it will be by the end of this week.
