I would advise caution using the Walmart app. Our account was hacked recently. Had to cancel two credit cards and start over. We deleted the app for now. Folks in Texas were trying to buy furniture. Bastards

That's not a problem unique to Walmart or its app. Any online account can be compromised, especially if you use weak passwords, and/or you reuse emails/usernames and passwords between sites and another less secure site gets hacked.

But you can make your Walmart account even more secure by also utilizing their two factor authentication option. That way, even if the gremlins get a hold of your Walmart account email address and password, they still need to have further access to your cell phone in order to retrieve the 2FA code before being able to get into your WM account.

For some people who can't get to the store, this can work out well but for me, I prefer to pick my own groceries especially fruits/vegetables,meats and cold stuff.

If they leave your ice cream out in the sun instead of bringing it in to your apartment door, too bad for you. Mom-in-law had this happen to her.

Yep. Grocery deliveries from your local store are made by gig drivers in their personal vehicles (like DoorDash/Instacart/etc.) Whereas the curbside pickup folks bringing your order out to you are actual WM employees.

Back when home grocery delivery first became available in 2018/2019ish, Walmart offered a deal for 3 free home deliveries, so I gave it a try. 2 of my 3 orders reeked of marijuana.

Marijuana smoking drivers delivering your groceries sounds like an iffy proposition. I doubt the Twinkie's would make it. Smile

I really like their Scan & Go feature in the app
Sounds handy, but I have questions. How does this work?

  • Do you just scan the barcode when you take the item from the shelf?

  • Do you have to go to a self-serve register on the way out, or can you by-pass that and have the charge go directly to a credit card linked to the app?

  • What if you scan an item, put it in your cart, and then change your mind and return the item to the shelf? Does the app handle this easily?

  • Yes, using your phone, you scan as you put items in your cart. I always either grab a bunch of bags as I walk in or bring one of my own.

If you need to put something back, you just delete it from your cart. Very easy.

You do need to still check out at the self checkout kiosk. But all you do is scan the code on the screen with your phone, and it pays through the app and you're good to go. It would be nice if you could bypass the checkout for sure. I guess they're not there yet. But with a cart full of items, it's certainly convenient.

Interesting that they make you stop and pay at the self checkout. I assume it is so they can take your picture with the "goods" to try and minimize theft. The SAMs club app allows your to scan and pay on the app and walk directly to the door, so Walmart has the technology already in place. But at SAMs club they stop and random spot check everyone's basket with a portable scanner at the door. Works great and I use it all the time. i wish Costco would implement it but they are just fairly recently getting self checkout.

Walmart shoppers, from the comments I see online, seem to get butt hurt if they are asked to show a receipt at the door to help prevent theft and reduce costs, so they may not be able to implement pay on the app at WalMart.

Also, wouldn't be surprised if we see the obligatory "they don't pay me to do the checkout" comments in response to using the self scan app.

We do Walmart grocery delivery and it’s extremely convenient. The positives are it saves time and energy on our part. The negatives are they substitute stuff I would never buy.

The good news is Walmart refunds the stuff you don’t want without hassle.

I ALWAYS have to refund something. Something is low quality, something is about to expire, etc. On a typical $100 bill, I might have to refund $10 worth. I’m not paying for or keeping a gallon of milk that expires in 2 days. I never would have purchased that in the first place, so they refund it and anything else I have a problem with.

We like it. I also save ten cents per gallon on gas. It’s worth it to us.

With the free delivery and 10 cents off on gas I am thinking its worth it. Opinions?

Live nearly an hour drive to closest Costco, and home delivery is not available as far as I know.'

With needs of only a couple, various in-store deals including gas price, still make the membership cost work for us.
