So it looks like only God can drag McCain out of the senate....

I voted for McCain in 2008 because the alternative was worse (proven, in retrospect). But I lost all respect for him in subsequent years. Time to vacate your seat-for-life, John, and let someone with American values take your place. Ride off into the sunset with the alligator tears flowing after you.

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

I respect him only for his miltary service/career and what he endured as a POW, that's it.

All I know is that if I was 80 years old, diagnosed with anything severe, and eligible for all the shit he is eligible for, I sure the hell would not keep draggin my ass in to "work."

Sorry to hear the news. Keeping in mind the positives in his background and career, I hope they find ways to address the cancer and maintain his quality of life.

I fight cancer everyday.
I hope he spends time with his family and turns away from all the politics.
80 years is a long time to live. He's lucky for all he's been through to have made it this long.

Retire and do the best with what time is left.

To add, this fine lady, who held together the family during the war, was in a horrible auto accident that severely disfigured her, requiring drastic operations on her legs. By the time McCain returned home, by accounts from friends, he was appalled by her appearance and shortly after left her.

I thank him for his service in Vietnam, he may have been a patriot then but his antics in recent years do not reflect patriotism in my mind.

Para's first post is how I feel about McCain.

Depending on where the tumor is, it could be influencing his thought patterns and decision making skills, and may have been for some time.

I'm glad Para mentioned the word "indifference".

Ask someone what is the opposite of love and you'll get the inevitable answer.

"Hate".

But that is incorrect.

It is indifference.

I voted for McCain twice as Senator in my early years in Arizona. Then I realized he had gone to the other side, predominantly, and at times seemed set on destroying our great nation. Haven't voted for him since.

And for you clowns casting aspersions on "Arizona voters", first, you had best realize, we've had no realistic or viable alternatives. And as alluded by others in this thread, let's take a look up your skirt and your Senators of Representatives. I haven't cast a vote for that man in almost 20 years.

The sooner he passes, the sooner the stain he leaves will begin to fade. Whether it is tomorrow or at any point in the future, my response will be the same.

"Good."

Terrible disease I wouldn't wish on anybody. He has had a long life so this isn't quite like a small child getting it.
He gets my admiration for what he is said to have done in a North Vietnam prison camp but not much since then.

This. I was surprised to see that title.

Assuming McCain will now have to retire, who is likely to replace him. I consider AZ to be somewhat reliably Republican. I'd like to see that seat stay that way. With all the chaos the media has created, I worry about it being in play.

Edit: I see the comment above about Rep McSally. It may be way early, but has she expressed interest.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Question is what are Ducey's long range plans?

It is not unheard of Governors resigning and their second in command assuming the Governor's post and then that person naming the previous governor.

Granted Franks and Schweikert are much more conservative. McSally has the military background which is important to Arizona with air force bases and USMC base within the state.

Obviously it is open to speculation at this point.
