GoJo and their hairbrained ideas
I ordered some new 4.5lb Gojo hand cleaner refills for the shop. I've been working off a case of them for quite a while. Swapped one out in a dispenser and noticed the consistency a little different. It would not dispense. At all. After further investigation I find out they have discontinued the dispensers and now recommend to just scoop out of the container. Ridiculous. I dug the old container out of the trash and notice it has two holes in the bottom for air. The old containers also have a disc used to push the soap down. I ended up putting the soap in the old containers and it works and will get me by through what I bought.

I just haven't figured out their reasoning for this one. I mean they sold the dispensers. They even still sell these as refills. I can't see a time when having to open the container with greasy hands, wash, then put the lid back on or it'll go bad would be desirable.

Is That the cherry smelling stuff?
I like the smell but think Fast Orange cleans better. I have the gallon pump jug at my shop sink.

Perhaps, scooping causes you to use more of it.

My very first thought, too.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11

Bingo!!!

Or buy a competitor's and use none of it. That's what I'll do once this is used up. If you've ever used this it's quick to see it makes no sense to try to scoop it out of this kind of refill container. I'm sure somewhere down the line it's about money but was a bad decision.

Nothing like going to use hand cleaner and finding that it has grease/oil residue in it from the last scooper.

Yuck.

I had to disassemble my GoJo pump because it had stopped pumping. Works well, now.

On a side note, I recall (back in the day) using a product that did not require water. You started rubbing this goop on your greasy shop hands and all of the grease started to congeal into flakes that you just brushed off your hands. It was almost like rubbing Elmer's glue onto your hands. Pretty cool.

Anyone have any idea what that stuff was?

The dispenser for the gallon plus container? When I was a teen we had one of those screwed to the side of the house in the driveway. Smile

IIRC, sounds maybe like Goop. I used to like the the original white Goop not the orange stuff. But it's been many a year.

Going back 60-odd years into the practice at the tire shop where I worked my first 'real tax paying job', the standard main hand cleaner was a near-gallon size can of something very like GoJo, on a wall mounted pump gizmo. You could either be petite and give a couple squirts, or make a scoop into the topless can & gram what you needed.

Didn't take much most of the time, and a can might last a week or so for the front shop crew.

Whitish creamy stuff that smelled vaguely of alchemy & sour stomach acids. Did the cleaning job very well.

I don't often get very greasy dirty, but I really like Zep products (and the company). Like this hand cleaner:

And you can use this dispenser, which has held up very well for me:

When I started working in a garage in high school I had problems with my hands cracking from washing all the grease off so often. The boss suggested taking a can of Dexron Type II (if I recall correctly), one of the ones with a metal top and bottom and cardboard sides, cutting the cardboard just below the the top, and “washing” my hands in there instead of with soap and water, except for when eating. Worked great, clean hands and no more cracking.

Fast Orange still has pump jugs. Not quite as convenient.

That's what I've gone to. GoJo (and a few times Goop) seem to liquify too fast. Open the can and instead of a semi-solid you have liquid.

I still recall as a kid before we could get "hand cleaner", my dad always using Lava soap to clean up after working on the trucks. Still good stuff.

DL Hand Cleaner or Great Stuff Hand cleaner? You could use it with or without water.

I use Snap-On cherry in their dispenser at work and it's great, but I did get a bottle of WORX hand cleaner to try, it's like nothing else I have ever seen. It's a dry powder that you shake out of the bottle after you wet your hands. It cleans extremely well. I bought a bottle to sit on my tool box at home.
