Almost missed it but Lady A decided to put on her own fireworks show for New Year's. I have never seen colors as bright as they were this morning. Yes, it's cold, but it's worth it.

Very nice! After retirement, one of the first things on the bucket list is to see the Lights. Is your location recommended for this? Thinking either AK or Iceland.... But not sure where.

There's places in Alaska much better than Anchorage for viewing the Lights. I know Iceland has a mini industry in tourism for the Aurora. There are several guides and lodges in the Fairbanks area that offer Northern Lights viewing.
It's just a tough thing to predict. Not only does the solar forecast need favorable conditions, the local weather also has to agree. I always tell people if they plan on a trip to see the Northern Lights, don't make it the sole purpose of your trip because that could lead to disappointment. I suggest if coming to Alaska to see them plan on coming up during the Iditarod or the Ice Sculpture Festival in Fairbanks.

Good to know. Thanks. I'll probably forget so may ask for recommendations when I start planning for a trip. I look up the calendar for Iditarod and Ice Sculpture.

Thanks. Looks like a trip to Anchorage and Fairbanks is due. Will look into what else is good to do while I'm there - maybe plan to spend 2-3 weeks up there.

What caught my eye is how bright the lights are, even though the city lights are in the foreground.

Very impressive my friend. I’m jealous I don’t live where I could attempt such a beautiful set of shots!! These have to be the best northern lights pictures I have ever seen. Very impressive indeed. Keep up sharing for us that can’t be where you are and most likely couldn’t duplicate your work. (-;

Just remember for our Lower 48 residents that the Northern Lights are much more prominate during the winter months due to shortened daylight hours followed by longer hours of darkness... Temperatures of -50*F and colder can be considered almost not uncommon during the later winter months... Those photos sure bring back memories of the beauty of nature as well as the dangers that we personally saw when Uncle Sam was my travel agent in the 1970"s........ ....... drill sgt.
