wdsman1Charelston recommendations
We are traveling to Charelston in July for my wife’s 40th. Yes I know it will be HOT! It will be 8-10 of us total. We plan to do a carriage ride, tour with Tommy Dew and I’m sure she’ll want to do lots of shopping. I have a reservation at Hanks and Husk. Any must do things for a quick 3 night trip? Any restaurant recommendations? I think on Sunday we will plan to stay on King street as they close it down the second Sunday of the month. Thanks

https://www.tripadvisor.com/At..._South_Carolina.htmlI would think that Fort Sumter and the Magnolia Place and Gardens would be high on the list. I would personally want to visit the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, because I'm a "church" guy (especially organs and windows).

jimmy123xHalls Chophouse, get the tomahawk ribeye. The fort is very nice. So is checking out the beach town nearby whose name escapes me right now.

architectIf you like a younger crowd with plenty of eye candy check out Saltwater Cowboys in the Shem Creek area (more in Mount Pleasant than Charleston proper). On the same inlet as where the commercial shrimp boats park which almost guarantees freshness, some of the best shrimp I've ever had. Near the water so maybe a little cooler in the evening with the ocean breeze.

YellowJacketThere's enough to do and eat for a few weeks.
Peninsula Grill, Raw 162, Husk, Magnolia, High Cotton, SNOB, and my personal favorite The Ordinary.
And there's a bunch of more low cost, local places for lunch.
I highly recommend the USS Yorktown and Ft Sumter. Shopping on King Street is very good, from basics to high end. A friend of mine has an art/apparel shop called Flood Tide on King.
For drinks, the bar at the Hotel Bennett and the Dewberry are swanky. Both on Marion Square.
I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log. March 24, 2023, 10:27 AM
GenorogersHalls Chophouse on King Street is my favorite but High Cotton is good too, they are owned or managed by Halls. Make your reservation at Halls way in advance.

wdsman1Thanks for the recommendations. I’d like to see the Yorktown however I don’t think my wife would appreciate it. How is the grey line bus/Sumter tour?
Any good breakfast places? It doesn’t need to be fine dining.

GenorogersOur fav breakfast place is Ruby Sunshine, they have about 10 variations of egg Benedict or you can create your own. Decent prices and tasty Bloody Mary. Right on Bay Street and parking nearby. Magnolia is a couple doors down, good place too for lunch or dinner.

AUTiger89We went a few weeks ago to see Blackberry Smoke for the 5th time, and I found out there's a Metro Diner there. I learned about them while visiting my sister in South Bend.
Delicious food, regardless of time of day, and not expensive. I highly recommend.

CQB60Rooftop bar Fiat Lux, at the Hotel Bennett. The Pavilion would be my other choice. Impeccable views

AglifterI need to save these in a word doc.
Grace+Grit in Mt Pleasant has excellent shrimp and grits.
Breizh Pan Crepes on George St is one of the few good places for breakfast.
My place (Republic) for ice cream - across King St from Halls.
Kings Leaf for cigars.
Home Team BBQ in West Ashley or Sullivan’s for cracklings.
Viscous Biscuit is also good for breakfast.
FIG is excellent, if you can get in. (Pretty much any restaurant in Charleston is good, except for a handful of tourist traps. Mediocre doesn’t last there.)
The other places folks listed are also good.
La Patissere has some of the best pastries in the nation. Remy is brilliant. (In the hotel Bennet)

we stayed in Mt Pleasant both times,
not sure if any of these places still exist,
however,
the Wreck of the Richard & Charlene was a good dive , great food,
Hymans was a touristy trap
Jestines (spelling) had a good dinner, and a great Coca Cola cake,
there is an excellent Coconut cake in a high in hotel near the market,
Poogan's Porch was delicious
+1 to Sumpter and Patriots point,

SJSIt’s been several years, but if things are still the same, if you decide to rent one of the horse-drawn carriage rides don’t go on a group ride since the ride route is pre-determined based on a rotation so you might not get to go where you want. If you hire a personal ride you can go where you want. It’s more expensive but worth it. My wife and I enjoyed it and I would recommend. Don’t know how this advice works with a group, but thought I’d pass it along for you and others. Enjoy your trip.

Charleston Place is the one with the coconut cake. Their foie gras is also excellent. Never been too impressed by the other dishes I’ve had.
