At the risk of opening myself up to good natured derision and vanity shaming, I gonna ask.
Have any of you old fogies (and younger victims) successfully treated hair loss?
I’m 52, and starting to thin up top. My dad had a full head of hair until he passed. My brother lost his in his 30s. I’ve been pretty lucky until now.
I’d like to hear if any of you have a good results, or even failures.
Anything is on the table. Topical, oral, surgical.
How did you get started? It’s a bit like asking google for current interest rates and then being instantly bombarded on every media channel by loan sharks.
How to sort the charlatans from the truth sayers? There so much snake oil in this space.
I have money to spend, but I’m not super vain about it. Is this a fool’s errand? Accept it gracefully?

I accept it as a part of the journey. Grey included. In the end, you have to be happy, however that may arise.

I'm getting pretty thin on top. I asked the Mrs. if she wanted me to do anything about it, she said no

I went with a super effective hair loss treatment:
And it's quite cost-effective too. Razors are <$2 a pop, and you'll save way more than that by completely cutting out haircuts and shampoo from your budget.
(Just don't be that guy that dives head-first into going straight to bald overnight, and who then walks around looking like a blinding white cue ball for days/weeks. Instead, buzz your head with a short guard for a month or so before going all the way bald, to allow the skin on you head to gradually get some sun exposure and resulting color.)

Started thinning with a lot of grey. Back in 1994 went and bought a hair trimmer and buzzed it off. Never looked back.

I tried some sort of shampoo back in the day.
Then I just started getting it cut shorter and shorter as it looked thicker that way.
Eventually I did this treatment and it worked 100% for me. -NSFW-

Finasteride helps. Trump uses it.

Consider transplantation. They can work miracles. Find a recommended transplant surgeon and get a free consultation.
There's absolutely no reason you have to accept male pattern baldness these days (other than the expense).
Shave your head, and grow a goatee...Not necessarily in that order! Do it and you'll wonder why you didn't do it years earlier. Trust me, you can thank me later

Honestly? No surgery or creams or drugs or any of that is going to delay the inevitable or look right.
This is the only way:
My Dad still has a full head of hair at age 80. I was going half bald by age 25. My Mom's father was bald by the time he was 21
Shave it!

Buddy of mine recently started using Hims, and its made a big difference for him. I started balding around 18 or 19 years old, so my hair is too far gone to do anything. Even if I did a transplant, it would have to be very aggressive and require many trips to Turkey to get it done, haha. I just shave it. My wife doesn't care, my friends dont care, I dont care.

I have to add, shaving my head was something I wish I had done earlier. I had received good natured ribbing and such as my hair was thinning but once I shaved it, all concerns that I had, left. Like a load off my shoulders.
Naturally, it may not be for everyone. But if your current situation bothers you like it did me, you may have a very good option to treatment.

Bald men are attractive. It’s all about confidence. I had a guy working with me in his 20s; by the time he hit 30 he was so thin on top he shaved it all off, or so close you couldn’t really tell. I can’t even remember what he looked like when he had hair. He looks great.

I take 1 low dose minoxidil at night. Simply put, it works and the cost is minimal.
The side effects of Finasteride scared me off.

My father was bald, three brothers are bald,(the horseshoe ring), all my uncles were bald, most all of my male cousins are bald, one son is going bald. I still have almost a full head of hair. I'm beginning to wonder.

In my 20’s I began losing my hair on the crown of my head. I got prescribed Propecia and it worked great. I heard it was really only meant for the hair loss in the area I was experiencing and if you stopped you lost your hair within a few months. I used it for a long time and the price of the drug kept going up to a point I was no longer willing to pay so I stopped and sure enough I lost the hair that it grew.
Now, I don’t care. I have been cutting my own hair super short myself with clippers since around 2002 and I don’t care how my hair looks or if I go bald.
So Propecia is the only treatment I have used. It comes with serious risks to women if they touch it; seriously.

Name brand Proscar 5mg. I have a pill cutter and quarter it up. 1.25(ish)mg a day. I find it works better than generic finasteride. Just my experience, and buying it in that form is cheaper than name brand Propecia 1mg.
I have a goofy shaped head and have developed keratosis on my scalp. Baldness is not in my future...unless I have no choice. I'll keep up with it and the minor side effects are not a big deal for me.
