Around twenty years ago I was deeply and expensively into slope soaring airplanes in the larger sizes - 3 - 4m, with clever stuff like water ballast and airbrakes.

I got my come-uppance down in Kent, Southern England, at a Sandate Hill gliding club, when a guy about a mile way from me and down on the flat took my $2500 pride and joy off me using pair of binos and a more powerful transmitter. He landed it, dismantled it, put it in the back of his car, and drove off. The binos were used to see what channel I was using - as most of you know, we had to show coloured channel indicators to prevent overlapping signals.

Since then I've had r/c in my steam trains and battery-electric diesels, working on the premise that if you are flying a 'plane and the r/c goes tits up, you are left with a pile of often smoking trash, whereas my trains simply come to a gentle and non-wrecking stop.

See tac's trains on youtube, partner channel to tac's guns, of course.

I did order extra A arms and we’ve rubbed through the body a little, but some Gorilla Tape underneath has solved that. Kids are already looking at new bodies to paint/design on their own and started sketching out tracks they want to build.

This might be more addictive than guns!!!

How to reinforce your body. Get mesh drywall joint tape. Cut and stick to inside areas of body needing reinforcement. You can use more than one piece when needed. Then get ShoeGoo and spread a thin film over the the mesh tape. If you dip you finger in water and keep it wet you can smooth the ShoeGoo. This will really make a body last longer.

Been running a Traxxas Stampede VXL 4x4 for a few years now. Cannot go wrong. Great for backyard bashing, and if you get a better lipo battery they are very fast.
Parts available everywhere.

I kinda wish I'd opted for the 4x4, instead. And now Traxxas is releasing a new model that looks totally awesome, the Unlimited Desert Racer:
