I've got a bobby helmet, because of course I do, but it's missing the big, gaudy, chunk of metal on the front. Where do I get one of these? I see them on the eBay and the like, but I figure someone around here might know a thing or two and be able to point me in the right direction.

Good luck, my uncle is a retired detective inspector of Scotland Yard and I can’t even score any of that swag

There were, until recently, fifty-one county police forces in the UK. Excluding the PNSI, who haven't worn helmets for well over fifty years, and traffic police, road and rail, and MoD police - all of whom wear peaked caps like many US state police officers, what exactly are you looking for? They're ALL different.

Doesn't really matter to me. I was thinking of seeing what it would cost to make a big ol' Joymaker replica to put on there, it's just for funsies.

I gave my duty helmet to my eldest son when I went into CID. They are tough to come by since they are a personal issue that has to be accounted for when you leave - I had to be a bit sneaky to cover it up. Back in the day (pre 60s) each copper had two helmet plates, one for nights and one for days - the first of the 'subdued' insignia. Many forces had the copper's individual numbers on the plates too, which made it even more easy to track where they were from. The Met went to shoulder numbers in the 70s IIRC.

I would say Fleabay is your best bet, although there's no guarantee you'll get the real deal rather than a knock off copy.

It looks like they have some interesting items, but before purchasing anything I’d research it separately. In just a quick skim through the “U.S.” military items I found two obvious identification mistakes.

I don't believe so. Mind, there were 26,000 of us when I was in and another 4000 admin staff.

For what it's worth, I don't know him either, and I live in England most of the time. Apart from me, there are currently about 15.15 million males between the ages of 25 and 74.

What's the likelihood of knowing another outside your usual circle of acquaintances?

I don't mind replicas, just so long as it doesn't cost the same as the real deal. Figured I'd come here first and ask, since somebody probably knows something.

My girlfriend is from Missouri, she moves up here and we start dating. One day I get a notification on the Facebook telling me I might know this other person because I have two friends in common, my girlfriend, and this guy I've been playing video games with for over a decade. He lives in Texas, and his cousin is the mutual acquaintance who lives in Oklahoma, she went to college with my girlfriend. Washington, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas.

What are the chances?
