Seems we’ve had mentioned a gun safe that could be assembled by the owner. Does anyone remember the brand? I’m having a senior moment.

I have a Zanotti. Well worth the $$$. There are other brands, don't know about their quality. Zanotti is USA made.

I have a Zanotti Armor as well. Excellent quality but you have to wait for it. I think I waited about 6 months for mine.

Hornday bought SnapSafe. They had a display at the annual NRA Meeting in Dallas in May. I asked about wait time and they said none which is quite a differentiator from Zanotti.

I helped my dad assemble his Zanotti ZA-III 6'. Getting the door, the heaviest part, up the stairs was fun, but the rest wasn't bad. Assembly was a little tricky due to the tight quarters in the closet we installed it in, but we got it done.

Quality seemed to be good and once assembled it looks as sturdy as most other gun safes. Wear ear protection when hammering the pins in.

I have a Zanotti. Get on the wait list. If you have a basement that you can't get a safe down or a tight closet they are fantastic.

First time assembling me and a buddy took a couple hours and almost lost a finger. No kidding. Second time (using those orange furniture mover straps) me, the wife, and my 10 year old put it together in about 15 minutes.

There is a learning curve. Use grease on the pins. Get mover straps. The 10 year old was merely to guide door into position with me and wife holding door with mover straps. Easy.

I have a dakota interloc xp. I don't think it is still made, but it has been great. It lived on the 3rd floor of my last house and is now in a closet that a non modular safe would have never fit. I bought it probably 8 years ago.

Edit: looks like it is still made but in a different color than mine.

My first was a Zanotti ZAII 5'. After I bought that, I learned about buying more than you need for a safe. I can easily move and assemble this myself.

Ended up buying a Zanotti ZAIII 6'. I can move and assemble this myself with the exception of the door.

They're built to order in Iowa. Really nice guys.

Not cheap, though.

I paid around $1700 for my ZAII 5' back in 2013 and about $2900 for my ZAIII 6' last year. They ship by truck freight so you'll have to add in shipping depending on where you are in relation to Iowa.

Funny story about my Zanotti. I picked mine up at the nearest freight terminal. As the terminal guy loads the pallet into the back of my truck with a forklift you can watch the suspension settle a bit. He looks at my friend and I and tells us to "Be careful, it's heavy". Thanks man, had no idea! My friend looks at him with a serious face and says "I hope the wind doesn't blow it out the back on the way home". Terminal guy nods.

I believe that was my thread, and Snapsafe was declared a good choice, as well as the Zanotti. Haven’t gotten either as of yet... got a corner of the basement that needs clearing.

Another vote for Zanotti...I’ve had one for 10 years, 5 moves. Love it. Love/hate the heavy door, but only while moving it.
