A couple of years ago I started applying for MBA programs. Fast forward to now and I am merely 2 classes from finishing my MBA in June.

Since I will have about 17 months of GI Bill left, I decided to apply for another masters program. This time at a local school in person as opposed to their online program. Would like the opportunity to collect in person BAH which will go towards paying for school for my wife and it will also give me opportunities to network locally.

I finalized my application last week: purpose statement, GRE/GMAT waiver request, reference letters, submit resume, etc. My packet went before the admissions board on Monday and I was told I would receive a decision in 2 weeks or so. Heard back 2 days later admitting me to the program. I have already signed and sent back the intent to study and will begin classes 2 nights a week in August.

For undergrad, I kept it cheap and went to community college and then public university. Army paid off my undergrad loan and I served beyond my obligation and built up a post 9/11 GI Bill. I left active duty and applied at private schools for my MBA. Got accepted for my MBA and decided to apply at another private school for my second masters.

Second masters will be in human resources. Definitely more focused than an MBA which is quite broad. I’ve met a lot of great people and networked quite a bit in the MBA program but most of my contacts are in the DMV area since the school is in DC. Looking forward to networking locally.

As an immigrant and someone who always hated school and struggled, I’m quite proud of being able to succeed at the graduate school level.

Congrats, the Army paid for my undergrad and graduate degree (MBA also) and I'm currently using my GI Bill to pay for a MS in Cybersecurity (4 more classes after this semester). I'm still on active duty so I don't get a housing stipend from the VA. Good job on taking advantage of the opportunity though, I think too many people fail to use their educational benefits.

I think one of the worst is seeing guys use it at a community college. Community college is too inexpensive to use the GI Bill on, in my opinion.

Education is something that cannot be taken from you.

Congratulations on all of your hard work.

Might as well use it. I got bored and went for a second masters after my MBA. I think it helped me getting jobs. Clearly, one company after several back to back interviews, one guy took me to the cafeteria for a drink and he said there shouldn’t be a problem. He listed 3 of the people who interviewed me as having graduated from one of my schools and listed a fourth guy as having graduated from my second school

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Good for you, your drive and determination is remarkable.

I too was a pretty lame student, love to learn, read constantly and write quite a bit, but I am a complete dip shit in the classroom and don't test well either.

Good for you Edmond, and congrats on getting back in. Though I never had the opportunity to serve, I went to Miami Dade Community College before transferring to FIU on my own dime. I did my education just to learn, I had some great times, enjoy the ride!

Well done. Army (Sonny Montgomery GI Bill) paid for a chunk of my school. Between that and getting a JC full ride for ACT scores, I didn't come out of pocket to pay for my education until the doctoral level.

Of course, those who have that GI Bill also gave up a chunk of their own time to earn that education, so it's always great to see people with the initiative to use the benefit to actually benefit themselves.... Good on ya.
