Cute video, but I still hate to see these guys in a caged environment.

They’re big cuddly teddy bears until they’re suddenly not. It’s usually someone that’s not the trainer and lifelong companion that gets attacked with these “pet” bears. They are wild animals and ticking time bombs as a result.

As I recall, bears are omnivores. Which means they eat a lot of different stuff, including MEAT.

I recall a couple of incidents over they years where "tame bears" got suddenly "untame" and attacked their handlers.

Also remember a couple of hunters staking out an elk gut pile to get a cougar. What they got was 3 bears in 2 days.

Yeah cute bear, I remember walking up the trail from the mouth of the Newhawlen river with a net full of reds.
Hearing a crack behind and seeing a brown bear cub, and knowing that mama isn't far away, elevates your pulse a bit.
Seeing the sow was more interested in getting her cub over to her than coming to visit was a good thing.

Watch that video again and look at the 1 minute mark.

Notice how that fore paw articulates the meat hooks?

Then, imagine, a "bear hug" with those tools in the full "I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him... and pat him and pet him... and rub him and caress him and..." Yeah.

Nope....

And dont forget the 800-1000lbs of muscle that drive those 3 inch claws.
Beautiful animals, observed from afar.

Every time I see any of these animal videos where people are convinced that all wild animals are our warm and fuzzy friends I think of that FOOL Timothy Treadwell. He got exactly what he put himself at risk for. The video Grizzly Man is well worth the watch. And the audio of his death is horrifying. You can catch it on You-Tube.

I went to a sports outdoor show at the local convention and entertainment center last weekend with my son in law and 2 year old grandson. One of the attractions was a grizzly bear on display. I personally hate these displays but we went to see it for the grandson. It was 4 years old so far from full grown but yet I'm guessing it at 200lbs plus. It was in a 30ft round fencing with some straw spread around the floor.

When we got there there were just a few people standing around the fence. The bear was off in the furthest part of the fence away from people as it could get lying on the floor with it's ass to everyone and his nose buried in the straw.

After a few more people showed up his handler who really didn't look like he knew what he was doing would enter the cage and pull on the bears leg trying to get him to turn around or at least move so the gawkers could get a better look at him. The handler would pull on his leg then quickly back up 10 feet like he was unsure of what the bears reaction would be. The bear never showed any signs of aggression but more of attitude of resignation. Sad thing to see and it still bothers me.

His handler was a younger man with dred locks all the way down his back. As we were driving home I told my son in law mark my words that bear is going to have a hard time passing those dred locks through his system one day because that guy is for certain going to get eaten by that bear and I'm not going to feel bad about it for one second. What I will feel bad about is when they have to euthanize the bear afterwards but then again based on what I seen it would be merciful to the bear.

I think we just had this conversation.

A bear like that is an apex predator and it cannot be tamed, not really. It’s warm and fed and safe so it may act nice and friendly and roll around with you and cuddle but the moment it decides its had enough of your shit that animal can kill you as easily as snapping a twig.

Someone said one time that keeping an apex predator is like playing with a hand grenade. Someday it’s going to go off and you’ll wish you hadn’t.

Yup! I place such activities as one I came across years ago up in North Idaho.

Idiot with his "tame cougar."

That's true of some dog breeds. My father was a dog trainer and there were some dogs he would have nothing to do with.

My cat does the same thing. Pet him, then he rolls over and exposes his belly. I rub it for a few seconds, then he decides it's play time. Cuts usually heal in about a week. I imagine that the bear version takes slightly longer than a week.

And if I recall correctly, not only did he get himself killed, he also convinced his girlfriend that they were safe and is ultimately responsible for her death as well.
