Chris17404How to repair/patch cracked vinyl arm rest in SUV?
Hi all,
My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a couple inch-long cracks in the vinyl arm rest from me resting my elbow while driving. I’d like to patch or repair it myself if I can. It certainly doesn’t have to look perfect. I’d just like to prevent it from getting any bigger. What products or techniques would you recommend? Thanks a lot.
Chris

AquilonNever seen any patch or repair hold up for this issue. (I tried the fix it myself route too - several different things - nothing worked). I'd say save yourself the hassle now - find an auto upholstery place, get the closet color match you can, and just rewrap that piece.

old dinoAgree with Aquilon ... never seen a repair like this that would hold up. I decided to go out to a pick-n-pull to get a replacement door panel since the arm rest was built into the panel. Best decision I made.

OKCGeneThis may not answer your question specifically, but it may help others with the very common cracked dashes in their vehicles.
I have seen various aftermarket "overlays" for dash and armrests and center consoles, etc.
If it's a reasonably popular vehicle you should be able to get an overlay.
I saw one dash overlay on a car, think it was a Toyota, it fit so well you really couldn't see that it was an overlay.
If you google "dash overlay" you should be able to see if there is a armrest or center console overlay available. Also search for "Coverlay".
There are ones you can see on youtube.
They truly are a very good and very inexpensive option.
EDIT TO ADD: Summit Racing shows a Mopar replacement door armrest pad for 2011-2013.

Chris17404Thanks for the replies, guys. I should clarify since I wasn’t clear... it’s the center storage console in between the front seats that has the crack in it. I rest my elbow on that too. The door arm rest is fine.

W. PetrokaI tried a few vinyl repair kits on my center console of my 2007 Avalanche and nothing would work. Ultimately, I ended up picking up a replacement cover on ebay for about $25. It was a perfect color and texture match, and took about 45min to replace. Search your year, make, color, and selling in US. Most vendors will also send a link to a video for your vehicle.

I had this same problem with my Ford Explorer ... and I just ordered a new center console arm rest cover lid ... and it was an easy install.

Gorilla tape works better. It's like duct tape on steroids.

PykerGorilla tape and a armrest cover over the top. I put one on my RAM Truck before the splitting happened and it's much nicer to lean on.
