A picture is worth a thousand words. This pic perfectly illustrates the joy of owning an iPhone and it’s glorious auto-incorrect function.

If you want to try it, you can turn on “Predictive Text”.

As you type, it will display 3 choices, of what it thinks you want, just above the keyboard. If one of the choices is the word you’re after, just tap it, and it will put that word in your text, and even put a space after it. There are times you can select several words without having to type anything.

If you want to get real brave, turn on “Dictation”. Tap the little microphone, bottom of the keyboard just to the left of the space bar, and start talking. You do have to tell it when you want a comma, period, or question mark. The more you use it, the smarter it will get.

stickman, I asked you a question. I expect an answer. You are trying my patience.

No I didn’t proudly post the pic. I was surprised it stuck in the wall.

muddflap, I have tried dictation a few times and struggled with it. How does it get better with use? Do you learn the words it messes up and learn to dictate more clearly or does it adjust to your voice/accent?

And one of those choices will be the word as you spelled it. Just choose it and it will be accepted and you can move on. It’s simple and effective. This whole business is much ado about nothing.

Yeah, they did screw up the copy support. I wish they'd fix that. It's a roaring PITA to use, now.

But ruins, stickman? Sure, those things are annoying. But ruins?

I've found plenty of things about iOS that annoy me. I found plenty of things to annoy me about Android, too. So if you think dumping Apple for Android will make you happy, all I can say is "Good luck with that."

We have some sayings about software in the software creating/writing field: "All software sucks. Some just sucks more than others," "There are two kinds of software: Software with bugs and dead software," and "If buildings were designed and built the way software is, the first woodpecker to come along would destroy civilization." (That last pretty much explaining the other two.)

Good grief, man. Step back for a second. You posted a pic of a device which costs several hundred dollars stuck in your drywall. You didn't post it because you're ashamed of it.

I don't know why all of a sudden you're posting this stuff about phones, but I think this is a subject you should avoid in the forum. Whether or not you do so is up to you, but what I'm going to require from you is never again posting pics of, or describing some rage episode you've had. No one is impressed. Some members are concerned enough to have contacted me about your behavior.

There are billions of iPhones in the world. Children, half-wits and women use these devices every day with no issues. You have at your fingertips the most extensive research library ever- the internet. You can find answers to address the issues you have with your phone. Whether or not you decide to take the initiative to find the answers- and there are answers- I don't want to hear any more phone rants from you and I damn sure don't want to see any more threads like this from you.

You’re supposed to talk normally, and the phone learns from you.
I’ve been using it for a couple years, and it still misunderstands me sometimes, but it has gotten a lot better. Things that have unusual spellings, like names, will probably never work.

It’s not perfect, but for quick replies to text messages, it’s great.

Tell it to use punctuation. I E at the end of a sentence you say the word period and it puts a period in there. Which is how I actually transcribe this thread post.
