My front door is not flush with the house; it is in an inlet to say. I will show a picture from a previous solicitor post. It seems since in this Texas heat flying insects like to hang around my front door because it is shaded as is my back door.

I am VERY cognizant of any flies getting in the house and I HATE flies. If I come home I check around before opening the door. If a package is delivered, I get it as fast as possible. I have now tried spraying a peppermint spray around the door frame and hanging a piece of cloth soaked in it.

Yet, like today I only opened the front door two times very quickly to get delivered packages and ended up having to kill 10 flies. It is like they are lined up waiting and yell “CHARGE” as soon as I open the door.

I will keep trying the peppermint spray, although I don’t think it works, and maybe try hanging fly paper at front door.

Just curious if anyone else experiences this type of problem and if anyone has any suggestions. Once in the house, the flies seem to taunt me by buzzing my head and as soon as I see one, I am on the hunt with a fly swatter to kill the and trust me I make sure they are dead as they are strong and I have seen them back to flying when I thought they were dead.

When I was a little kid my parents put fly paper up. It had a smell that attracted flies, and its adhesive surface captured them. Very effective. Don’t know if it’s still available.

Serious about crackers.

We've been dealing with it too. Electric tennis racket fly swatter makes it a bit of fun.
Read recently that flies hate [I think it was] PineSol.

Yeah I will look into the the fly paper and definitely read reviews as once I bought a fly trap and it smelled like a decaying carcass and sure caught the flies but I didn’t want it near my house. Yet maybe that will also keep solicitors away…lol.

I had one of those and they did work. I need to see if I can find it. I will try soaking the rag in pinesol.

We also have one of those blue light Zevo sticky traps in the kitchen.
Catches more mosquitos & gnats, but usually grabs a few flies too

What if you spray the walls and door frames with Talstar P?

If they land on the walls they will die, hopefully before they make it into the house.

When I have had a problem with flies I just hand the bug zapper in an out of the way place in the house that away from the bedrooms so it doesn’t wake us up in the night which is a kitchen cabinet.
Then when the lights are out it attracts them to the light.
Really haven’t needed it in years since the kids and later grandkids are all grown up. Was the worst with all the constant door opening which kids seem to have to do.
Also use the door that goes into the garage and out the back shop door when taking the dog out which also keep dirt and water traffic down from the dog and myself. Use compressed are on my shoes to blow the grass and water off my shoes when its wet plus going through the garage give debris time to fall off the dog before getting inside.
Maybe try to use weatherstripping or redo your exterior door to make it tighter sealing.

I have to be very careful of what I do in the house as I own parrots who fly freely in the house. I will double-check weatherstripping.

Spic and Span Lavender Scent All-Purpose Antibacterial Cleaner kills ants and probably flies. I use to get the spray bottle at Dollar Tree for $1.00.

I will check that as well as it used about 1/4 of the expensive peppermint spray I ordered to spray around the doorframe and that didn’t seem to do anything.

Also, I am going to ask my pest control company what they recommend or if they can do anything. They normally just spray boundaries, but I wonder if they will spray the entire front area. They are a MAJOR pest control company in Texas, we are friends with the CEO, and listed as VIP clients so maybe there is hope there.

Oh trust me, I hate flies as they are disgusting. I have to open my door to exit and enter my home, but try to do so as quick as possible. When entering, I first check there are none at my door when I briefly open it.

I don't know if this is appropriate for residences, but there are businesses that use forced air blowing down/outward. I've always been curious about possibly using the technique at home. I've always wanted one of those sliding glass exterior walls that open to a patio.

I apologize. That quote was from the Band of Brothers series. It's been on cable TV the last two weekends.
I've watched it so many times. Was trying to be funny.
