“A liberal political media operation being run out of Washington, D.C., and Florida is pushing left-wing stories in 51 different fake news outlets in order to influence the outcome of the November midterm elections, it is claimed.

The allegations came in a shocking new investigation from Axios that was published on Thursday.

They do report a wide variety of stories - but sprinkled throughout are news items pushing Democrat lawmakers and policies.

So what is “shocking”about this? I just assumed this has been going on for a long time. This is what the major news outlets have been doing for years on a much larger scale.

For some reason the NYT flashed in front of my eyes, reading this.

Fake or misleading stories have been pushed by political activists for years, masquerading as news providers. This is nothing new.

It goes back to the early years of the Republic. See "Infamous Scribblers" by Eric Burns.

The point here, IMHO, being that it's a new enough entity to be laughed into ineffectiveness by being made fun of as Astroturfing rather than news gathering.
