With fresh brewed hot coffee I either drink it black or with some half 'n half or milk. ☕ Depends on the beans used which way I go. Over ice with the NINJA CM401 (SCA certified) is simply a very very strong espresso like brew over a mug completely filled with ice. Straight or with just milk is too harsh, for lack of a better term, so I've found a splash of Kamora or Kahlua with half 'n half makes for an great drink. This because sugar or any granulated sweetener won't dissolve in the cold brew. Had my first cold brew this morning made with that SEMKO 1.5 liter pot I just got (roughly 50 oz capacity, same as the Ninja pot). Same beans as I used for over ice but ground much coarser. Straight is quite nice with no hints of bitterness. The full flavor of the beans comes through. But with a splash of half 'n half or milk it, for me, is another step up. So what's the verdict? The pundits are right. Cold brew provides a much smoother, less bitter result than over ice. That said it does take the requisite 12 to 24 hours to make whereas the over ice is ready in minutes. So both will give an enjoyable result but for unsweetened, it is cold brew for the win. Yes love it, we have had a few threads lately ~ you might want to search through those too. Cold brew is much less acidic and "smoother" if you will. It does take QUITE a bit more coffee to make although I have made a second run with the same ground bag (I use a tied up cheese cloth). I prefer a med roast in general but have been tying different roast levels. Additionally, I use Third Wave Water stuff in distilled water for all my coffee. Also it might need to be filtered as it retains some ground residue, sometimes I pour through a paper filter or a mesh strainer if I don't have the time to filter. YMMV | |||
