We cardiologists have known about cough from ACE inhibitors (lisinopril and others in this class) for probably 25 years; there's no real excuse for a primary care physician not to know that this perhaps most widely used antihypertensive medication has as its primary and very common adverse effect a nagging dry cough. Yes in almost all cases it is improved by switching an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) such as losartan or candesartan. Sorry it took so long for that problem--which, again, should have been easily recognized--to be discovered. And yes, GERD can also cause a cough, also clearing of the throat; but that's often worse when lying down. _________________________ “ What all the wise men promised has not happened, and what all the damned fools said would happen has come to pass.”— Lord Melbourne | |||

If you're talking to me, I went to an ENT who stuck some camera pipe down my throat via my nose. It wasn't but a few minutes; I was surprised he billed and got paid $300 for that. He saw some irritation and came up with that explanation. I think the irritation was from my coughing. And my coughing was pretty bad, I would choke up until i got a ricola in my mouth. water didn't work, working up spit didn't work. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I like my doctor but sh*t!. I went to her specifically because I was coughing. She's the one who prescribed the lisinopril. I don't know if she recommended it or I decided to go see an ENT instead for the wrong diagnosis of chronic mild acid reflux. I suppose that's why it's called a practice.
