I'm planning a bathroom remodel and don't want a tile shower as it's a perpetual issue with mold on/in the grout. I thought about granite sheets. Even cultured marble? Then I saw this:

https://www.kohlersafeshowers.com/

The sheets look pliable like, poly? Good? Or should I stick w/granite?

thnx

I've never used it but it looks like a nice product. I have tiled two showers and used epoxy grout with no mold or mildew issues.

I went the cultured marble route several decades ago and it still looks great. No regrets.
It isn't cheap, but neither is tile and it's far easier to keep clean than the tile/grout option.

I have remodeled both full baths in my home using cultured marble. Full sheets for the walk in shower walls and floors, partial sheets for the tub walls with tubs and sinks to match. the only thing to fix is the silicon sealant in the corners. maintenance is super easy and no need for any harsh chemicals to clean with (we use soft scrub on a wash rag). Both baths have been installed for almost 30 years now. Wife was very happy to have sinks, tubs, showers, and toilets all match. I'm happy because of no maintenance headaches and no leaks. buy once cry once, if your planning on staying in the home long term, highly recommend this product for bathroom use.

We just did a bathroom remodel. We used a product called Syn-Mar; sheets of composite material on the shower walls.
It's good stuff. There's also a similar product called Swanstone.

Swanstone can be DIY if you have some skills, but Syn-Mar is better installed by a professional.

What kind of sealant in the corners? Caulk or grout?

I like the quartz!! Questions: floor slippery when wet? Anything special required to make sure it’s not slippery? Or use different material?

I’m looking to make the shower curbless. Does the trough drain allow for flexibility to change the shower floorplan slightly while still using the existing drain pipe (in concrete slab)? Or did you have another reason to use the trough design over a small circular drain?

I did four bathroom over the last three years with large tile and epoxy grout.

The stuff has not shown any mold or dirt.

I looked at the Kohler wall product.

I thought it was over priced.

Just another stone and resin product.

There are several on the market.

They are a name bathroom bathroom plumbing supply brand expanding their product line to wall material.

Kohler is now limiting it to authorized dealers installers only. So you now need to use their people to install it.

I can do a bath remodel at a fraction of their price.

I have a friend who used Onyx in his house, and I installed an Onyx shower/sink in my bus. I'll probably use it in my home when I remodel.

I think grout. I didn’t do the work. It also has metal edging, top and sides.

It’s a very tight fit so the seams are very thin.

@konata88, bathroom quartz is man made. They make some that is made for the floor with a nonslip surface. They usually have some that matches the walls. Not available in all "colors"

If you are on slab, the current pitch would determine the best way to do a curb less shower and drain choices.

I had to tear up my floor to sink the shower pan and re-pitch the whole floor to get it curb less with no threshold into the bathroom.

There are many ways to do a curb less shower. The current set up is going to determine the best method and the overall cost.

I picked a trough drain against the back wall since I pitched the floor that way.

My aunt and uncle did a shower with this about a year ago. It's really nice and has no seams except in the corners.

Regardless of material, corner seams should have caulk, not grout. Planes that butt up perpendicularly - like in corners - will flex and shift at different rates, so using rigid grout in the long corner seams will cause the grout to crack and crumble in the joint, whereas caulk will flex alongside them.

And new generations of epoxy, urethane, or other hybrid types of mold and mildew proof/resistant grout work very well. I would recommend talking with a tile retailer or installer about your mold concerns before totally writing off tile and grout.

It's not like the old style (and likely unsealed) cement grout that it sounds like you've been battling mold with.
