NYT reported Hogg had an SAT score of 1270.

In the late 90's my ex-wifes boy was in the second or third grade and one of the requirements was a calculator.
I pitched a fit about it and come to find out the boy couldn't do simple math without a calculator.
I had to teach him how to add and subtract 1 - 10 without one.

I still have kids in elementary school and don't allow calculators still.
Matter of fact we are looking to just Home School them now.

This is the result of removing critical thinking at an early age.
