Judge orders New York to dole out nearly half a million in legal fees to NRA after Supreme Court victory

Story by Brianna Herlihy

FIRST ON FOX - A New York judge ordered the state to pay nearly half a million dollars in legal feels to the National Rifle Association (NRA) after the gun rights group won a major case at the Supreme Court.

In a case decided last summer, the Supreme Court ruled that a New York public carry licensing law was unconstitutional and that the ability to carry a pistol in public was a constitutional right guaranteed by the Second Amendment.

The NRA was a party in that case, New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, and last week a New York judge ordered the state to pay $447,700.82 in legal fees.

"The NRA regards the $447K award in the NYSRPA V. Bruen case as a pivotal victory, a symbol that justice is definitively on our side," Michael Jean, NRA’s director of the Office of Litigation Counsel, told Fox News Digital in a statement.

SUPREME COURT TO TAKE UP MAJOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE GUN CASE

"This triumph in Bruen has fortified the Second Amendment in an unprecedented manner, and we continue our unrelenting fight to uphold our rights and challenge those who endeavor to infringe upon them," he added.

Good. Too bad for the taxpayers but they voted for these clowns. Hopefully the commies in CA legislature and other states get forced to pay when their anti gun laws get wrecked by the supremes. Make it a campaign issue. Yeah Gavin is a great governor (lol) make him president. The state and taxpayers only had to pay millions becuase all the unconstitutional laws he signed got overturned.

Should be standard procedure on all Supreme Court wins. Loser state pays. And it gets well publicised especially the author of said bill when they run for re election

Yes, good news.

Does the $447.7K legal fees get paid just to the NRA (per title of the post) or is it split among all of the plaintiffs, to include the NYSR&PA, etc.?

Recouping legal fees is a good start. But we really need the politicians who draft/propose, support (vote for) and approve (ie - gov, et al), be removed from office when laws that reasonably should be have been known to violate the constitution are repealed.

As it is, we the citizens/taxpayers are basically pay for the legal fees for both the plaintiff (nra) and the defendant (gov).

Add a couple three zeros for punitive damages, I'd be fine with that.

Perhaps they should be charged with civil rights violations. A few decades behind bars with other criminals might give them time t reconsider their life choices.

If they’re for disarming law abiding Americans they are probably also in favor of mollycoddling violent felons. Meeting some of the up close and personal would likely have the desired effect.

I feel bad for the few "Right Thinking Americans" that are stuck there that have to help foot that bill.

I'm happy that years ago, my tax dollars went to Mr McDonald when Lil Dick Daley had to sign a 2 Million Dollar check for his illegal and unconstitutional handgun ban.

I think that was Rahn Emmanuel, but yeah, you're right on the substance.

June, 2010- Lil Dick was running the show. Somewhere floating around the interwebs is a picture of the check with the studdering pricks signature! I laugh every time I see it!

I met Mr McDonald a few times, he lived not too far from me. Pretty cool gentleman, and extremely humble.

My mistake. I was thinking of this:

July 9, 2014 07:31:33 am

[JURIST] "The US District Court in the Northern District of Illinois on Monday ordered the City of Chicago [official websites] to reimburse the National Rifle Association (NRA) [advocacy website] for the $940,000 spent on legal fees challenging gun ordinances. Chicago’s ban on the sale and transfer of firearms was overturned [JURIST report] in January after the NRA brought claims that the ban was unconstitutional. This marks the second time [AP report] the city has been ordered to pay legal fees for a suit brought by the NRA."

At that time Rahm Emanuel was the mayor.
