Been a long standing rule for the Yankees, no beards, no unkempt hair, Steinbrenner was a military school grad, he wanted the team to project a specific image.

Can't say I disagree with him, but times change and beards are quite common today, and the Yankees need top talent to compete...

Yes the Yankees look VERY clean cut compared to other teams players like Brandon Marsh on the Phillies who looks like a homeless hobo with that huge beard and long hair. Big Grin

They have some other weird traditions/regs too like no numbers on jerseys and no mascot.

^^^ Maybe we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but that doesn't mean one should have a stupid-looking cover. I think the Yankees can find something in between.

I remember when Damon went from Boston to NY and from longer hair and a great looking beard to short haired and clean shaven. I thought it was ridiculous then and still do. It's baseball, not the military.

Although, for $52 million dollars, I suppose I could be talked into shaving.

Yeah not a Yankees fan but I liked that. As a Rockies fan I love me some Charlie Blackmon. Good guy. Never understood the long hair and gigantic freakin' beard though.

Yeah, the Sasquatch look is pretty stupid too, but there's nothing wrong with a well-kept beard and longer hair.

Baseball has more grooming rules than football. I remember the Boz and his unconvential haircut first with Oklahoma. Does not matter to me. They can look like ZZtop for all I care. They used to all have flat tops.

Philly has always had players who look homeless or drunk.

Kroc was a great example.

You get paid millions of dollars to do a job. Let’s back up a minute. Our soldiers, PD, our nurses, EMT, doctors, and teachers need to dress a certain way, and keep themselves presentable? And you are bitching? Fuck you and your sport. I’ll keep my local heroes as my EMT’s. Thank you very much. This is the least shit you could do for making that kind of money. Fuck you. Set an example for our young men, to be a gentlemen, or GTFO!

My local AA minor league team the Pensacola wahoos also known as the mullets and wear jerseys that says “mullets” on occasion, issued a press release almost identical in text and form saying mullets were ok for players. Good laughs.
