That is one awesome tradition you have there. My buddy and I have been talking about starting up something very similar. It’s a great time of year to be in the woods and on the water. Most of our experience is on the upper Manistee north of 72 and various stretches of the Au Sable.
We’ve got to put in the time and the leg work to figure out the salmon game. It looks like it is more than worth it!

My wife’s family is from that area (Benzonia). I fished there for years and always had a great time. On some years I could walk the shallows and literally kick them on to shore. I always gave the old folks part of the catch, and always shot a deer for them on their property. Great times. They are all gone now but the memories lasted.

When I lived in Wisconsin we used to go salmon snagging on Lake Michigan. It was great fun. We left the area and we heard that snagging was prohibited. It was near Manitowoc in late November and an all night afair.
