The Vermont Army National Guard opened up their Ethan Allen training facility this weekend to the shooting community and allowed the public onto the base to shoot. Including their long distance machine gun range with pop up and steel targets that went out to 800m with paper targets out past 1700m What a great day. The guys in charge were so easy going and super friendly and made the experience even better. Great group of guys. Makes me proud to live here. It was on short notice so I could only scramble together 50rds of 68gr bthp for my Savage .223. I made the best of them though, I made consistent hits on the 800m pop up. ![]() !~God Bless the U.S. Military~! 800 meters? If the pop-up was as big as a shed, I might like that. ![]()

Sounds fun. I've never shot 800 yards, but would like to try it. Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity DISCLAIMER: These are the author's own personal views and do not represent the views of the author's employer.

Haha they were man sized targets. I'm super impressed with how the lowly little .223 performed. !~God Bless the U.S. Military~! If the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off Light travels faster than sound, this is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak

Friend of mine took some I think I have an ancient flip phone so none from me ![]() The coolest part of it all was I had my friends 6.5 Creedmoor and there was a big plywood target in the shape of a pickup truck at roughly 1550m and my spotter swears my 2nd shot went through the passenger door. The vapor trails were very visible so that's what we were going off it. Before today my longest rifle experience was 440 yards, today it was almost a mile ![]() ![]() !~God Bless the U.S. Military~! 800 meters with a 223? That is great! I have to admit I doubt I could do that with a 233. Much wind? RMDThis message has been edited. It was windy all day but in the morning it was a tail wind so didn't effect windage at all. It slowly morphed into a crosswind by the afternoon and the creedmoor showed its potential. A 600m steel silhouette was boringly easy to get COM hits repeatedly, that's how I ended the day. !~God Bless the U.S. Military~! Yep. 6MM and 6.5MM CMmakes just about everyone look like a hero. I wondered about the wind as any cross wind would have blows that 223 way off target at that distance. Thank, RMD TL Davis: “The Second Amendment is special, not because it protects guns, but because its violation signals a government with the intention to oppress its people…” Remember: After the first one, the rest are free.
