Five law enforcement officers were shot, three fatally, in York County, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, state police said.

The officers were serving a warrant in North Codorus Township at the time, law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation confirmed to ABC News.

The shooter was shot and killed by police, according to Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris, who said there is no ongoing threat.

Two officers are in critical but stable condition and are being treated at Wellspan York Hospital, officials said.

Local news for us here.

Suspect was the ex of the daughter living in the house. Seen lurking in the area previously on trail cams.

Seen again on trail cams and when police showed up suspect ambushed the police from a corn field while camouflaged. Suspect killed in gun battle.

Full on combat is less dangerous than a domestic call.

The cornfield ambush thing is scary. We have tons of them here, that stuff is super dense and like 8 feet tall, and there are acres upon acres of it, and you can't see shit beyond the first couple of rows. We've had missing persons get discovered in the fall when a combine hits a car with a dead guy in it out in the middle of a field.

Even a drone doesn't have much chance of seeing in there. We spent 6 hours looking for an old lady with dementia earlier this summer who had wondered off. About 30 firemen, 15 cops, neighbors, ATVs, drones, etc...turned out she was less than 200 yards away sitting in a cornfield, and it took a bunch of guys walking every other row of that whole field to find her.

A dude hiding in ambush a cornfield with a rifle is a nightmare scenario. I'm impressed that they got him.

So a lot of the initial reporting was not correct. There was a press conference today and they laid out the basics.

Daughters ex was stalking the house. The family got a PFA, and while the police were attempting to serve the PFA, they advised the family to stay elsewhere.

Police did not find the ex at his residence and when they went to the family's home, the ex was waiting inside. He had already killed the family dog and opened fire on the police as they approached the house. During the ensuing firefight, the ex killed 3 of the officers and wounded 2 more while being fatally wounded himself.
