Pretty much every 6.2 GM from 2021 to 2024. They are experiencing oil based catastrophic failures.

After some reading and phone calls to buddies in the business, the oil weight isn't the cause, and then mandate to put heavier oil in is only am bandaid.

It's mainly due to incorrect (larger) clearances.

Bearing clearances are the major factor in determining oil viscosity for proper fluid bearing dynamics.

So, it is an "oil based" failure operating with incorrect oil. Establishing the proper oil for these affected engines is not a band-aid, it is the correction.

Certainly the root cause is the larger clearances and the lack of realizing this, leading to operating them with the incorrect oil viscosity.

If it were simply "bad surfacing/contamination", the recall would require oil analyses and/or visual inspection of connecting rod bearing(s).

Not changing the oil and hoping for the best, considering as many vehicles affected, GM would want to get in from of this.
