Mercedes GLC 300 Login/Join

I'm in the market for a new suv and I was wondering if anyone drives or has driven a GLC 300. I would be interested in any known problems or reliability issues.
I live about an hour away from the closest dealership and when I needed service; for even something simple. with my previous BMW's I hated wasting a day to get it. I would be in the same boat with a Mercedes so I'm a little hesitant.

I'm assuming you mean reliability would be good, right?

If so I'd agree. Have friends with them over the years, first we got was a 2014 ML350 4Matic with about 12K on it.

Has 95K now and other than maintenance not a problem. Well, one "maintenance" item that is more frequent with this model is a chronic issue of the stability control eating rear brake pads every 20-25K, but once I understood that and accepted that as a running cost it was ok.

Well actually I've never owned a Mercedes product. that's pretty much why I started this thread. So I really don't know what to think. But thanks for your really "helpful" input.

Wife currently driving a 2013 ML350. Been rock solid. 2009 E350 before that, also very easy to maintain.

We had pretty minor stuff on the E Class and drove it til it had 120k miles or so. ML has had nothing break so far in the 3 1/2 years we've had it. My parents have an ML and also had an E Class before that. My wife's parents have been a 2-mercedes family for about 10 years now. We'll almost assuredly buy another Merc when it is time for the next car.



There ain't much difference in the man I want to be and the man that I really am.

My current car is a 2015 C300, so same drivetrain. Currently around 60k miles on it.

Had a GLC300 for a loaner once & it was like driving a lifted C300 hatchback, but with a smoother ride with the taller sidewalls as compared to the 19" wheels on my C (Sport pkg).

No mechanical issues with my C, apart from some panoramic sunroof noise.

I'd say go CPO for sure, for the extended warranty.
Adds 1 year to the standard warranty, with unlimited miles.

Prior to this, I had 2 1982 Mercedes, a 240D & 300SD, but those are from a different era, but both with >300k on them.
My grandmother had 7 S-class over 30 years & never had any major issues (outside of operator error or natural causes [Hurricane Harvey]) with any of them.

Lease it, don't buy it. They're not anywhere near as reliable as a Japanese car, and repairs are significantly more than an American car.

120k miles is a lot for a Mercedes. At 120k, I think I'm just breaking in my Honda. Dealership said to expect around 200k with regular maintenence.

When I lived in Dayton, I visited the local M-B dealer. I was surprised at much less expensive Certified Pre Owned 2-3 year old models were. I might actually go that route if the warranty would cover the length of the lease or loan.

If you're comfortable with spending a couple grand a year on maintenance, Mercedes can be quite reliable.

The issue people always run into is deferred maintenance. That's when they get unreliable.

I remember working with a guy who had a ML with 240k miles on it. Sure, he spent literally $3-$6k a year keeping it on the road but he loved the vehicle so it was money well spent for him.

We have owned a 2006 SLK 280, a 2011 C350, and now a 2015 GLK 350. All have been excellent vehicles. As previously noted, maintenance is rather expensive, but a loaner (new Mercedes) is always provided, and the dealership goes out of the way to make it a hassle-free experience.

True, my C300 had an MSRP of $50k on the window sticker.
CPO, I was out the door for a bit over 50% of that.
Bought it in 2018 with 16k miles on it.

I have a 2019 GLC300 4matic. It now has 10,000 miles, and although I know that's not much of a reliability test, so far it has been flawless. I think the build quality is superb and overall performance is excellent. The dealership just picked it up last week for it's first service, which was included with the purchase. I think the "Service A" is usually about $200. However, I would be a little scared about having a Mercedes (or an Audi or BMW) out of warranty, based on what I hear about repair costs. FWIW, when I was shopping, it was a toss up between the GLC and the Audi Q5.

I DIY the A/B service on my C.
But, I have read reports of the A & B service running in the $4-800 range depending on the dealer.

On the C, it came with directional runflats & on the Sport Pkg C they're staggered. So, a tire rotation involves dismounting the tires & remounting & balancing.

I switched to a non-directional non-runflat tire & rotate L<>R each oil change.

I buy used from a small dealer who is very specific about the vehicles they but, most of which are coming off a lease. They are typically ~2 years old and 30-50k miles. It's the perfect niche for these cars, imo.

My A service thru that dealership costs $100.

Thanks everyone. I usually keep my vehicles about three years so long term maintenance is not a real concern and I would be sure to buy the three year maintenance plan.
I was more concerned about the unexpected problems as both my BMW 325 and 328xi ended up making trips on a flatbed back to the dealership. One with a complete computer meltdown the other after it sprayed all its oil onto my driveway.
As Mercedes best seller I assumed they were well sorted out but I thought the same with the 325 and 328. Just don't want to go down that road again.

We bought our first M-B in 1978, and since then we've had fifteen of 'em, sometimes two at a time. If we can bear to, we trade them in at 100K.
Being in the Army until 2000, we had to buy our own cars - no leasing of that kind of stuff - and since 2000 nothing has changed. we pay the cost of the car right there, whatever it is. We currently drive a 2016 AMG premium sports-line station wagon - we have a wheelchair to transport around quite a lot... the only thing i don't like about it is the slow open/shut of the panoramic roof. It has 86K on it, BTW.
