Peace through superior firepower |
Well, not shooting (I always wear eyes and ears for shooting), but doing yardwork, they've saved me from problems. A few years back I was clearing brush and thumb-sized branch struck me in the face pretty hard. The glasses saved my eyes. These days, I always wear gloves and ballistic eye wear when cutting my yard. On the street in front of my house, some weeds had grown in the seam between the road and what forms the curb. I decided to put the mower on the street to cut these weeds. Bad idea and I should have known better. A rock about the size of a marble got hit by the spinning blade of the mower, bounced up off the side if the curb and BAP!! Smacked the left lens of my glasses. It would have been life-changing without the glasses.

When shooting, once a hot ejected case fell and wedged between my glass lens and cheekbone. I did a "hot brass dance," pulling the glasses off and brushing the case away while still holding the loaded gun. (I kept it under control but didn't think at the time to simply toss the gun on the ground.) It left a pretty good burn mark. But it was better than a burn on my cornea. My former work had all kinds of eye irritation and injury hazards. If I knew I'd be cutting or grinding metal or similar I'd wear safety glasses, but not normally. The one time I had an actual injury that needed medical treatment was from a snap ring/circlip that cut loose and scratched my unprotected cornea.

While wearing prescription safety glasses I had an ejected cartridge case get caught between the lens and my eye lid. Burned the eye lid a little. Sweat had caused the glasses to slide slightly down my nose. I now wear a brimmed cap in addition to the safety glasses. At least twice an ejected case has hit the outside lens. “There is love in me the likes of which you’ve never seen. I wear glasses. Shortly after I bought my CZ Scorpion I'm at the range and had a shell ricochet off the right stall wall and fly in between my right lense and my lower eyelid. The glasses held the hot brass tight against my skin and I got burned pretty bad. Safeing the CZ and getting my glasses off took longer than I wanted. Since then, I always shoot with these: __________________________

What are those? Link? I have seen, and even constructed my own side shields, but those appear to be much heavier and offer better protection than what I am familiar with. ► 6.4/93.6 “Most men … can seldom accept the simplest and most obvious truth if it … would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions … which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabrics of their lives.” — Leo Tolstoy

^^^^ https://www.amazon.com/Glasses...id=1726442158&sr=8-8 There are several types. I like the flexible ones linked above. There are hard plastic types where you use a bungee type cord to secure them. They're all cheap. Buy some different styles and use the one you like the best would be my suggestion. __________________________

Thanks for that. I don't usually shoot under conditions that a side shield would be important, but it would be good to have the option. ► 6.4/93.6 “Most men … can seldom accept the simplest and most obvious truth if it … would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions … which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabrics of their lives.” — Leo Tolstoy
