As a customer I have 3 FFLs in the area I have used to receive firearms from on-line shippers. One is a range and store combination where I've been a customer for many years, the other 2 are shops that I've never bought anything else from. In all cases I have received notification of the arrival of the piece within 24 hours and have arranged to pick it up ASAP with no problems. Their processing fees are also very reasonable.

Your situation sounds very suspicious to me. I'm with those who say you should go there and demand to pick up your gun. And then use someone else from then on. If practical, I would also stop purchasing anything there, and let them know why (after getting your gun, of course).

Seems like they could do the 4473 the same day, unless he gun showed up at 1700.

I’d be there asking for my gun.

They have until close of the next business day to enter it.

Hopefully you do not require further review when your ffl calls in the 4473. My transfers normally go to further review which used to add about 2 minutes to the phone call.

The last 2 transfers I've had (both within the last month) were delayed by about 30 minutes. My ffl says it started during covid and anything that needs further review gets a call back. I normally show up 10:30am on a weekday and my guy always uses the telephone rather than a computer.

I've ordered two rifles from Palmetto State Armory and had them shipped to a local ffl. Both times I got a tracking delivery notice, called the shop, and he said yep it's here. I drove over and we opened and inspected the gun. He entered it into his book while I filled out the 4473. Paid the transfer fee, thanked him, and was on my way.

Yep, dump them!
I get a call day it arrives, fill out the paperwork, it gets called in, the approval is noted and off I go.
Sounds like BS, and unnecessary.

Well believe it or not it's happening again. Lol
Used a different ffl this time , a local pawn shop. Today makes the 10th day since they received it. Called a couple times and the last time his wife told me he would call ME WHEN IT WAS CHECKED IN. Guess I'm still in search of a good ffl. Lol

In the future check GunBrokers FFL list, these are dealers who accept online gun purchases and FFL transfers on a regular basis and know the process.

Nice thing is it gives you all the contact information and their pricing, even if you don't use GB you can use this list to see who performs the service in your area.

Next best bet is to use google to check reviews online for these shops, call ask if they do transfers, check to see if the fees are updated and ask about turnaround time.

If this time you used a different FFL to do the transfer and it is taking 10 days just like the last FFL did maybe it is some type of local waiting period or local law. Call them and ask

I can recommend CenterFire Shooting Sports in Olathe if you want to take a short drive. They are very responsive. They're just a short way off of 35 so it shouldn't take too long for you to get there.

Followed a tracking number after work.

My FFL took about seven minutes and charged me $10 for the transfer.

They know I'll be back for ammo several times.

We don’t call anyone about their transfer.
People around here are good at showing up when their tracking tells them is has been delivered.
We then hand them their 4473 to start filling out and we walk in the back and grab their box and hand it to them.

Not sure why so many places have such a difficult time with this?

To my knowledge GB lists FFLs by area, but I don't think any are actually "recommended". I would imagine you have a local or state gun forum, and you should be able to ask there for recommendations.

I had this happen 2x with a table top ffl. He was very slow to transfer my 1st 220 and I was stupid and used him again because he was super nice and enjoyable to talk to after my 1st transfer.

On my 2nd transfer, he did the same thing and I ultimately texted him after a week and told him I would be coming by that evening to pick up my pistol. (Prior to my more assertive text he would ignore me for days at a time - I was not being a pest either, just following up every couple days.) After my assertive text he almost immediately responded that my pistol was ready to go. I picked it up 30 minutes later.

I was hot when I got to his house but calmed down. We had a nice conversation but I left after and never went back. Anyone who lacks the courtesy to communicate with me, especially when they have a $1,000 pistol of mine, will not get my business.

O9JK,

10 days is unacceptable. Have you tried the more assertive approach?

Some stores there's just one or two people who know how/are allowed to do it. (more a general sporting goods store type store. Could see it in a pawn shop as well)

Some places, even though it's a gun store and they all know how, there's one person that handles all the shipped in and out transfers and online auctions.

They both have people working there and people suck. Some stores, like people, suck more than others.

Correct, GB doesn't recommend just list those FFL's that want to be listed, there isn't a GB rating system, although it would be a good idea.

If you find an FFL on the list, with a good price, then call and ask questions on how they handle transfers, as I said check google for reviews on them...

Found a couple near me that I've used for a class three transfer and they did a great job, couple of days to get it but it was more of setting up a time we both were available.

A few of us use Pawn Shop Guy in Apopka, across the street from Mullinax Ford on 436. Highly recommended. Found him on a list, I think it was on Bud's website. Been using him for years, now.

I monitor tracking numbers; if I see an incoming I just head for his shop. I usually get a text or email from him while I'm on the way. He's fast, the only time I ever had to wait was when there was somebody ahead of me.

Reasonable cost, $25 for each firearm on the 4473, plus $5 for the call-in on the 4473 (that's five bucks for the 4473, whether there's one firearm or a bunch).

He usually has a small number of guns for sale. I found a nice S&W model 65 there.
