FFL to FFL transfer question.

09JKFFL to FFL transfer question.
I have never had this problem in the past , but I am using a new FFL on my end.
It is a smaller chain store with 3 locations. They took delivery of my rifle 6 days ago and have heard nothing from them yet. I called a few days back and was told not ready yet and they would call me when it is. I decided to go back in the Google reviews and found a hand full of 1 stars due to the slow ffl to ffl transfers.
My question is how long is too long ? This seems excessive to me at this point.

HRK6 days seems at the outset of reasonable expectations, I'd go over to the store that has it and ask to pick it up.

12131Yep, time to show up and ask for your gun. No excuses for that delay, not even for a one-man FFL doing it as a side job. And after this, don't forget to leave negative review.

sigmonkeyEvery firearm I have transferred has gone out within 24-48 hours, and typically delivered within 72 hours.
I will take it in with the packaging unsealed, pull the firearm and all things that are with it, show it cleared, action locked back or open mag removed/cylinder open, for inspection and logging by the FFL, then put copies of paperwork in, put it back together and seal it before I leave.
And I always ask when it will go out, at what shipping time (days) and tracking information.
6 days to process and ship is too much.
(I also talk with FFL on both ends to make sure I am providing the info and process the way that they desire to make it smooth on both ends. I learned a lot by dealing with a friend who was had a gun shop and all the "horror stories" he relayed to me about transfers, and what a hassle they could be)
Hope this helps someone else.

MikeinNCThey have to enter the gun into their book the day they receive it.(batfe rules)
Seems like they could do the 4473 the same day, unless he gun showed up at 1700.
I’d be there asking for my gun.

09JKDefinitely going to get a negative review. Just trying to keep it civil until I atleast take possession. A few of the bad reviews mentioned a manager at the store with power trip issues. Refusing to sell to customers when she seen fit without any cause.

09JKSigmonkey ..... It was shipped from another ffl to them and this store has had it since last Thursday at 10am.

DaBigBRThere's nothing to "get ready." It's a one line entry in the bound book or equivalent software.
They're full of shit.

h2oysFormer FFL here back before Clinton cleaned house which included me.
As others have said, they must enter the receipt of your firearm in their log when received. Hence your firearm is just sitting there right now.
I can't imagine them being so busy they haven't had time for you to come collect your rifle.
Personally I would just show up and when asked if they can help you, just state; "I'm interested in looking at other rifles and accessories while I wait for you to complete a transfer for me".
Thus setting the stage for a possible repeat customer and hopefully they'll be more friendly to you and the situation.

09JKH2..... What is sad is I am a multi repeat customer. My son and I are both members and have bought multiple firearms from them and a butt load of accessories.

h2oysYikes, that makes it even worse.
I still would just show up and make the statement above in my prior post.

I'm old and can't brain some days.
I had it backwards.
But six days is still nuts.
My FFL friend called me the day received incoming for me and I could pick them up same day.

12131My previous FFL never took more than 1 day. My current one, never more than a couple hours. I get it, sometimes they're swamped with things, but 6 days is inexcusable. And, even worse, they do it to their regular customer.

PASigWhy would they sit on things like firearms? My FFL can't get me to pick my stuff up fast enough. This seems suspicious unless he's a one-man shop and just truly backed up.

selogicI hope this doesn't turn into something bigger . AFTER you take possession of the firearm I would definitely tell them they have seen the last dollar of your money and anybody else you can convince .

HRKGood luck, being there in person, first thing in the day, simply state you're there to pickup a firearm they said was in, and ask for the 4473 form so you can start it while they retrieve your firearm.
Simple, polite, firm, then use someone else next time... no need to explain the why or what, if they gave a shit you wouldn't be dealing with it for 6 days.

09JKAlmost feels like they punish customers for buying elsewhere. Idk
Also I called on Saturday and the guy told me it's not ready and since it's the weekend it won't be until at least Monday. Which makes no sense. I know they sell guns on the weekend. Lol

dry-flyNo excuse for that kind of delay. It takes seconds to log in a transfer. I have guns in my customers hands the same day if they’re available.

Excam_ManI've always picked up on the same day, one man shop.
Never any issues...
