Wondering about this? Have an elderly family member who lost a spouse recently. She lives alone in a rural setting. I do not know anyone there who could check on her.
She has not answered the phone twice in two consecutive nights. She generally would and does not travel far from home. Short trips usually.
Any advice.

Thanks

Call in a welfare check to her local pd or sheriff. It is pretty common.

Find the agency that has jurisdiction where she lives and call them.

Most likely a county sheriff.

Exactly what they said.

If she’s out in the country, most likely the County Sheriff.
Give them a call, tell them the story, we’re glad to help in situations like that. Leave your phone number so they can re-contact you with the results.

I hope all turns out well!

Is she in Florida by chance? If so I'll make a road trip out of it and check on her for you. Email me Rotndad~AT~Gmail.com with SIG Forum in the subject line.

Thank you so much guys.

Rotndad, thank you for that. That is incredibly generous. Not in FL. though. In Or.

Feeling like I may need to call the Sheriff for a WFC in this situation.

welfare checks are a common call for the PD....we (FD) assist them when/if forcible entry is required...we do those several times a month on average.

Marion County Sheriff Office https://www.co.marion.or.us/SO

about 25 minutes from Aurora; Oregon City is closer yet 18 minutes but in Clackamas County;

I'm sure the Marion County Sheriff office would be ready to help if you contact them.

Yes. In such a situation we would gladly do a "welfare check"

No, we will not do one every day.

If you call and request one, please DO NOT FRIGGIN' CALL IN AS ANONYMOUS... Give your info in case we need more information, and to let you know what we find.

We would be happy to check in on a senior citizen and hopefully, make them feel good that their needs are taken seriously by the local LE. All part of the job.

Have her give you he name and number for a close by neighbor or friend. Also does she keep a house key hidden somewhere accessible , to allow entry to the house? Breaking down doors becomes an issue.

Does she have a Medical Alert buzzer?

We did them all the time. Part of the job. Only issue if there was no answer and all entries secured. then it was up to the caller to determine if entry should be made short of observing a serious issue at hand.

Went through that myself recently. Had a lot a friends looking in and it does help. Sitting alone with no contact is not good.

We do them every so often. My department has a residential lock box program where we provide you with a key vault that only we have access to so we can gain access in an emergency without doing any damage.
