The price works for us by being able quit paying for duplicate services at both houses.

Yes, we are now about 3 years into YTTV and even with the price increase we have decided to keep it. It really is the best of the internet TV services and mimics most closely having actual cable TV. It works really well on iPhones and iPads too which helps when away on travel or vacation. Also seems to have most of the local channels and sports channels which the other platforms do not have.

You just have to be willing to watch 175 commercials per hour. 12 commercial per break.
There's currently a solution for that: A DVR. Then you can skip the adverts.

I say "currently" because I'm sure NextGen TV will eliminate the possibility to skip commercials.

At that point we won't be watching OTA TV anymore—except for the local "news," and that mostly for the weather. (We hardly watch any OTA TV, anymore, anyway.)

We're currently spending $47/mo.:
  • DVR subscription: $6.67
  • Netflix: $15.49
  • Paramount+: $1.67 (intro price for 1st year)
  • Britbox: $8.99
  • PBS Passport: $5.00
  • OAN: $5.00
  • NewsMax: $4.17
NewsMax will be cancelled. The $50/year subscription isn't worth it in our view. Paramount+ may or may not stay when it goes up to full price.

BritBox may or may not stay. Main reason we have it is for the Death In Paradise series.

When NextGen TV becomes the standard the DVR subscription will go away.

We've been keeping it under $50/mo. for quite a while.

Awesome PASig, thank you!

Neither DirecTV nor Xfinity were able to provide their full channel lineups when we were away from the house we had their services at. The expense of DirecTV and the service outages whenever it rained in Florida is why we switched to Xfinity here. We’ve been making do in MI by using our cellphones plugged into the TV in MI.

Netflix is covered by the T-Mobile subscription and Prime provides access to their content and movies in the Prime fee. We've tried Hulu and didnt find it to be of value.

Still have DTV and I use Firesticks with their app, initially took a bit to get used to but found it provides excellent access, better than using their tuners and remotes, we just keep the main DVR unit which is required. Haven't found any channels missing using the DTV app over in house.

Pretty much came to the same conclusion, by the time I paid a bunch of subscriptions to companies for special access it wasn't saving any money.

Connecting a PC to your TV via HDMI and using it basically like a large monitor would be the simplest solution.

That's what I was afraid someone would tell me! The direct HDMI cable would obviously work, but with my room setup it would be more of a hassle than simply watching stuff on my laptop. I do enjoy the larger screen, and being able to share it with my wife, so that's the only real reason to watch it on the TV.

I will consider my options, but at this time the YT Premium option may be what I end up with. Thanks!

Edit to add: I could use a wireless HDMI Tx/Rx kit so that I don't have to deal with a cable to the TV and that would work. Just thought of that option and will consider it further. Only a few months of YT Premium would pay for a decent Tx/Rx set from Amazon...

The thing that is keeping me from ever going back to Xfinity are their two insane fees that they keep raising:

Broadcast TV Fee: up to something like $27 now
Regional Sports Fee: something like $20 now

So before you even pay for ANYTHING, they are gouging you out of $47 a month!

That’s why I left Dish Network a few years ago. The required “basic” programming fee got upped to $50. $50 for locals and a bunch of cable channels (commercials) that I NEVER watch. I kept all my movie channels on promotional offers and was able to keep it at $75-90 a month for many many years. That’s with a 4k DVR and 3 additional 4k set top boxes, fully integrated. Once they raised that mandatory basic programming cost it sent the bill to over $100 and I said fuck it. Still regret it. I loathe streaming but rubber met the road with my money. Now all the streaming services keep increasing their prices every year. Due to this I just disconnected STARZ app. I wasn’t using it much anyways. I’m sure this year I’ll be removing another.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.
