I would think many Congressmen would rather be marinated in sheep poop. It is a major source of influence to be seen as the cause of federal dollars flowing in to the district. With the line item veto, you bust your butt all year, wheel and dealing, supporting other congressmen's idiotic wasteful projects, only to have the
President line yours out.
The line item veto is an excellent idea. All of that pork, and the influence they gain from dispensing it is the root of our problems. This President needs to be fair, and line ALL of the wasteful projects out.

Take a military base. Thise are orecious, and you sure don't want some President to get the wrong idea and kill yours without a huge big fight, a chance to line up your buddies in Congress to save it.
Besides, I doubt it would be Constitutional.
And Presidents would use it to punish political enemies not save budget.

Trump admin orders EPA contract freeze and media blackout MICHAEL BIESECKER and JOHN FLESHER Published: January 24, 2017, 12:25 pm Updated: January 24, 2017, 1:43 pm
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration has instituted what it described as a temporary media blackout at the Environmental Protection Agency and barred staff from awarding any new contracts or grants.
Emails sent to EPA staff since President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Friday and reviewed by The Associated Press detailed specific prohibitions banning press releases, blog updates or posts to the agency’s social media accounts.
The Trump administration has also ordered what it called a temporary suspension of all new business activities at the department, including issuing task orders or work assignments to EPA contractors. The orders were expected to have a significant and immediate impact on EPA activities nationwide.
Similar orders barring external communications have been issued by the Trump administration at other federal agencies in recent days, including the Agriculture and Interior departments.
Staffers in EPA’s public affairs office are instructed to forward all inquiries from reporters to the Office of Administration and Resources Management.
“Incoming media requests will be carefully screened,” one directive said. “Only send out critical messages, as messages can be shared broadly and end up in the press.”
I know many EPA employees.
They must be howling like the prisoners in Azkaban with a Dementor sucking on their face.
Well, as I said after the election, I'm sure Trump sent a clear message to the bureaucrats warning them to not issue new rules. They thumbed their noses at him. And as they say, "elections have consequences." Thumbing your nose at the incoming boss isn't a great way to start.

Thank you President Trump. January 24, 2017, 09:05 PM

The line item veto is an excellent idea. All of that pork, and the influence they gain from dispensing it is the root of our problems. This President needs to be fair, and line ALL of the wasteful projects out.
Well of course it is, but just because it is an excellent idea doesn't mean it's a good idea.
If Congress can't control the President by controlling spending, what good are they?
Would you be willing to give the line item veto to President Obama?
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.
When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown January 24, 2017, 09:21 PM

You bring up a good point (as usual), but it's been a really long time since I've seen Congress control spending for any reason.

O'Grady currently massively back pedaling.
There's only one explanation how such a person reached that level of employment in the Secret Service, and it has nothing to do with qualifications.
She should be removed from that post immediately. There's absolutely no way President Trump could have any confidence in that woman after what she said.
Exactly. Many of us have seen that in the workplace, EEO pussy power in place of quals. In some organizations, esp. federal employment, white males are actively rejected as candidates 100% of the time.

nhtagmemberrecall that the President is only one of the co-equal branches
he doesn't necessarily 'control' as much as cooperates
I still think the line item veto is a good idea
why trash an entire budget because one item is massive pork spending but everything else might be just fine?
its not so much about retaliation as it is responsibility in spending
NOT having the line item veto is why we haven't had balanced budgets the past decade or so
the difference this time is that a businessman is running the executive branch

mrmn50If this is Jib Jab, I truly apologize. I just could not resist:
"On Saturday an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he’d been sitting on a park bench.
He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, “I would like to go in and meet with President Obama.”
The Marine looked at the man and said, “Sir, Mr. Obama is no longer president.”
The old man said “Okay” and walked away.
On Sunday, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine “I would like to go in and meet with President Obama.”
The Marine again told the man “Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Obama is no longer president.”
The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.
Monday, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same U. S. Marine, saying “I would like to go in and meet with President Obama.”
The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, “Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Obama. I’ve told you already that Mr. Obama is no longer president. Don’t you understand?”
The old man looked at the Marine and said, “Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it.”
The Marine snapped to attention, saluted and said, “See you tomorrow, sir.” "

That's the way George Washington saw it... the role of Chief Magistrate was only to execute the law... not to make law. That's the job of Congress.
However, Congress has since ceded far too much power, in the form of "agencies" and "rule making" to the executive branch of government.
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. parabellumI love the attention to detail. President Trump is going to temporarily suspend all environmental rules that would hinder or halt construction of the

Trump promises 'major investigation' into alleged voter fraud
http://www.foxnews.com/politic...ged-voter-fraud.htmlPresident Trump announced Wednesday that he will be asking for a “major investigation” into alleged nationwide voter fraud -- a day after his press secretary was grilled on Trump’s claims that 3 million to 5 million people had voted illegally in November.
Trump announced the move on Twitter, and said the probe will focus on “those registered to vote in two states, those who are illegal and even those registered to vote who are dead (and many for a long time).
