Curious... why are the tax cuts for corporations permanent, yet the tax cuts for everyone else are not? Did they think it wouldn't pass that way?

The nonpermanent cuts are necessary because:

"it would have run afoul of budget rules by adding to deficits beyond the 10th year. By conflicting with the rule, the bill could not proceed through the reconciliation process that would allow it to avoid a Democratic filibuster."

I think it is an outrage that this continuing resolution/reconciliation nonsense keeps on going.

I realize that the closest thing to eternal life on this earth is a government program, which these are, but c’mon, man!

Congressmen and Senators seem to think that individually they can do nothing, but collectively, nothing can be done.

This message has been edited. Last edited by: JALLEN,

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

during the remarks after the tax bill passed, Sen Orrin Hatch paid quite a tribute to President Trump

https://www.realclearpolitics....ations_but_ever.html

SENATOR HATCH: Well, Mr. President, I have to say that you’re living up to everything I thought you would. You’re one heck of a leader, and we’re all benefitting from it. This bill could not have passed without you. It couldn’t have passed without the Alaskan delegation. It couldn’t have passed without the leadership in the House and the Senate — Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell — and the other leaders as well.

All I can say is, is that we’re making headway. This is just the beginning. If you stop and think about it, this President hasn’t even been in office for a year, and look at all the things that he’s been able to get done — by sheer will, in many ways.

I just hope that we all get behind him every way we can, and we’ll get this country turned around in ways that will benefit the whole world, but, above all, benefit our people and bring us all to a realization of how really great America really is and how the rest of the world depends on us.

I love this country. I came from very humble roots. And I have to say, that this is one of the great privileges of my life to stand here on the White House lawn with the President of the United States, who I love and appreciate so much, and with these wonderful colleagues and Cabinet members who stand behind us.

And to see all of you and realize that you care too. All I can say is that God loves this country. We all know it. We wouldn’t be where we are without Him. And we love all of you. And we’re going to keep fighting, and we’re going to make this the greatest presidency that we’ve seen, not only in generations, but maybe ever.

We just had our Christmas Dinner at work. Our ownership announced that with increasing orders in our corner of the oilfield, AND the tax cut, we would be going back to a full 40 hour (and more if needed) work week.

Since the last downturn our shop has been on 32 hours, with the Texas workforce Commission picking up the other 8 hours at unemployment rates.

Obviously the big driver is the increasing orders, but the significant corporate tax rate cut helps in making the decision that was made!

Make time to listen to Trump's speech last Monday. It is in my opinion one of the great speeches of modern times. I don't think anyone else has linked it here, though I could have missed it. But it will make your day, I promise.

I never would have guessed, or hoped to believe, when he was a candidate, that he could be such a visionary, inspired, great president. Life is filled with surprises, and some of them are wonderful, amazing.

God bless President Donald Trump as he closes out his first year. Here's to seven more!

What I have witnessed during President Trump’s first year in office has left me slack jawed.

This man, against all odds, is bringing the U.S back from the brink of complete disaster.
He’s had to fight the Left, a dishonest media, the FBI and the phony “collusion” witch hunt, and even his own party.
I’ve never seen anything like it.

I’ll admit he’s not all that smooth at times, not all that presidential.
Zero fucks given.

He is exactly what America needed, when we needed it most.
His agenda could have been written by me.
His priorities are my priorities.
His philosophy is almost lock-step with mine.

His foreign policy is spot-on.
He’s speaking the language that Iran, NK, ISIS and others understand.
It’s the only language they understand. And they’re hearing him, loud and clear.
That makes the Left nervous, and our enemies even more nervous.

Domestically, he’s got the economy spooling up in a big way. Yuuuug, even.
He understands business, and being a leader. Finances. He gets it. He understands it.

No other presidential candidate could have done this.
Political correctness? Fuck that, says President Trump.

He has vision and conviction.
He loves this country and its people.

Still on his to-do list: Holding HRC and many others accountable for their crimes.

God bless you, Mr. President.

One of the things the corrupt media has relied on is that they can go down into the gutter, they can play by no rules at all, they can make shit up, but their target, the president (if he is on the right), has to "remain presidential." Which basically means that they get away with their shit and can go on and do more of it.

Donald Trump doesn't fall for that. He is no George Bush, no Mittens Romney. This is a guy who had to deal with the mob in his real estate career. You want to get down in the gutter? Have at it, Donald Trump will-- metaphorically speaking-- gouge your eyes out.

One year in, he has the left foaming at the mouth. Pinwheeling eyeballs. Walking the St. Vitus Dance. In a word: berserk!

I believe he will be one of the greatest presidents ever.

^^^ That's just more of their berserk ranting. There will be no civil war. Antifa and BLM can cause a lot of trouble, stir up violence, but it's a far cry from civil war.

All they have gone up against so far are inanimate objects (busting windows and torching buildings), or unarmed people. Wait until they come up against somebody who fights back.
