The Trump Presidency
Holy shit. Did you hear what the Russian Foreign Minister just said in his joint press conference with Tillerson? He just suggested that the Obama admin seems to have worked to intentionally screw things up with Russia relations with the incoming Trump administration.

That's not news to me or any thinking American, but...

Russian Foreign Minister Meets With Tillerson, Says They Inherited 'Time Bombs' From Obama Admin

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/...son-presser-n2312637

After a more than two-hour delay following his unexpected meeting with President Vladimir Putin, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson held a press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Wednesday in Moscow.

The “irritancy” between Russia and the U.S. escalated during the Obama administration “especially,” the foreign minister noted.

“There are certain issues that have been inherited, so-to-speak, as time bombs" from the Obama Administration, he said.

Tillerson agreed.

"We've agreed to establish a working group to address smaller issues and make progress towards stabilizing the relationship," Tillerson revealed.

In their “productive” conversation, Tillerson and Lavrov talked about the steps they must take to improve international stability. They agreed that North Korea has to be de-nuclearized and that the civil war in Syria must be addressed in an "orderly" way.

The foreign minister was confident that Russia and the U.S. have a common goal of overseeing an “absolute defeat of ISIS” and seeking a political solution to the Syrian crisis. He also noted they wanted a “frank investigation” into the Syrian chemical attack, believed to be launched by President Bashar al-Assad.

The end goal, according to Tillerson, is removing the Assad regime. He repeated what Defense Secretary James Mattis said on Tuesday - that the Syrian government clearly orchestrated the chemical weapon attack that killed nearly 100 people.

"The reign of the Assad family is coming to an end and they have brought this on themselves," Tillerson said.

I have thought for a long time that if the Russians and Americans partner to defeat ISIS, that ISIS would be wiped out quickly.

Too bad nobody thought of this back in Charlie Wilson's War.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

You are correct, IMO, but it's a rather complicated issue of international politics. Superpowers using proxy states to keep the other superpowers off balance is nothing new. Like us supporting the mujahedeen in A-stan in the 80s, and China supporting the NorKs to keep Japan, South Korea, and the US pre-occupied. . .

Russia is not going to wipe its feet on Trump like they did Obama. Ain't gonna happen.

We have all the tools lining up: straight-talking diplomacy, economic means, and military might. I believe we have the people in place to make the most effective and efficient use of those resources.

Much to the chagrin of China, Russia, and ISIS.

a confusing report

http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/13/...elligence/index.html

British and other European intelligence agencies intercepted communications between associates of Donald Trump and Russian officials and other Russian individuals during the campaign and passed on those communications to their US counterparts, US congressional and law enforcement and US and European intelligence sources tell CNN.

The communications were captured during routine surveillance of Russian officials and other Russians known to western intelligence. British and European intelligence agencies, including GCHQ, the British intelligence agency responsible for communications surveillance, were not proactively targeting members of the Trump team but rather picked up these communications during what's known as "incidental collection," these sources tell CNN.

The European intelligence agencies detected multiple communications over several months between the Trump associates and Russian individuals -- and passed on that intelligence to the US. The US and Britain are part of the so-called "Five Eyes" agreement (along with Canada, Australia and New Zealand), which calls for open sharing among member nations of a broad range of intelligence.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer repeated Trump's claim and cited Fox News' reporting about GCHQ's surveillance to reporters in the briefing room. "Judge Andrew Napolitano made the following statement, quote, 'Three intelligence sources have informed Fox News that President Obama went outside the chain of command (to spy on Trump). He didn't use the NSA, he didn't use the CIA ... he used GCHQ,'" Spicer told journalists.

Those comments angered British officials. After Spicer's remarks, White House officials told CNN British ambassador to the US Kim Darroch and Sir Mark Lyall Grant, national security adviser to Prime Minister Theresa May, "expressed their concerns to Spicer and Trump national security adviser H.R. McMaster" in two separate conversations.

The GCHQ also issued a statement saying: "Recent allegations made by media commentator Judge Andrew Napolitano about GCHQ being asked to conduct 'wire tapping' against the then President-elect are nonsense. They are utterly ridiculous and should be ignored."

damn, GCHQ seems to be cutting some fine lines here.

Trump Just Wiped Out Obama’s Pro-Planned Parenthood Rule.

Donald Trump signed legislation on Thursday reversing an Obama-era rule that banned states from withholding federal funds from clinics that provide abortions.

Trump signed H.J. Res. 43 two weeks after the Senate approved the legislation 51-50 with Vice President Mike Pence casting the tie-breaking vote. States can now block funding that would go to facilities like Planned Parenthood.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Seema Verma said Thursday that the president’s signature “shows he is keeping his campaign promises.”

“It’s an important step for the administration that shows they want states to be in charge of the decision making,” Verma told reporters.

Penny Nance, the CEO of Concerned Women for America, agreed that this is a states rights issue.

“We have been clear we want to shift funding from Planned Parenthood to community health centers,” Nance said.
