I have calluses that get painful and scrape them daily. My leather work boots got soaking wet and when they dried the inner soles got rock hard. I need some inserts to lessen the impact of the boot hitting the ground. Any suggestion?

You're going to want to change to a boot that has more waterproof properties.

As for inserts, I've found success with Sole Support. Any inserts, however, will get destroyed by getting wet all the time.

Another part - GOOD socks.

You’re getting calluses because your feet aren’t supported and are constantly shifting/moving, them getting wet isn’t helping either.

I got custom rigid orthotic inserts made about 6 years ago that have been a complete game changer. Podiatrist scanned my feet with an iPad type device and then they were created that were molded custom to my feet. You can remove them and put them in any shoe and they are so comfortable.

They cost about $150 a set, but I’d gladly pay double that they are so amazing. I’d suggest you to look into this and not just buy off the shelf inserts.

The local Red Wing store has a machine that scans your feet and then you walk across it a couple of times and it measures the pressures across the bottom of you feet as you walk. They then recommend one of their insoles. They didn’t have the boots I wanted in my size, so they ordered them and had them shipped to my house. I didn’t want to buy the insoles until I had the boots to try them with. Haven’t gone back yet so I don’t know if it works or if it’s a gimmic. Their insoles run $30-$75 or so which causes me to think gimmic.

I use the Powerstep insoles. Started using them to control Plantar Fasciitis and have had great luck there.
But they are also high quality and very comfortable in the footbed. They come in specific sizes and fit my shoes true to size. Many others you have to trim which I think puts the arch in the wrong place for me.

I like Superfeet orange inserts. It’s best to stand on them in the store and see if the arch location agrees with your foot. I went up a size and trimmed to fit. They last longer than the boot. They are thick and take up a lot of space in the boot.

I’m a longtime Powerstep user and they’ve fixed (for about five years) my knee problems.
They also make my work shoes and boots incredibly comfortable.
I use the Pinnacle Maxx model for my situation.
You need to have quality footwear that uses a removable insole. Whatever the price, it’s much cheaper than a medical fix.

I'm going to advocate for 7 million years of foot evolution.

get some barefoot style workboots.

These all have safety toe.

your feet hurt because you're walking around on marshmellows, I've done this barefoot thing for close to 10 years now, there have been countless times I should have broken toes, rolled ankles, seriously injured myself but my foot health is 2nd to none.

Here are a few suggestions.

I have custom orthotics that were purchased through my podiatrist. When I used to walk on concrete all day they were necessary.

Get some good socks, I have been wearing boots daily for my work since 1990. The Darn Tough wool socks are the best I have found.

Get some quality boots, I prefer Red Wing but they seem to only last a year. The fit well though and if yo buy at a Red Wing store they can custom fit your feet (since some people have different size feet, maybe one is an 11 and the other 11.5).

Coat your boots with mink oil to help waterproof them.

If your boots get wet frequently, buy a boot dryer and use 2 pair of boots. Let one pair dry while you wear the other.

Superfeet bronze colored ones for me, but try different ones from them to match your arch. Took about a week of using them till any soreness went away. I used to use some air pocket and gel mix, and they are great still for short term use with anything impact related, but just walking a ton at work with those killed my back and my feet since they didn't lock my heel in place.

My favorite Red Wing boot is no longer made in my size. Went with Thorogood boots as the price is at the limit my company pays for them. Terrible boot as purchased in regards to comfort. Foot pain was severe after only a week or so. This boot lasts me about 18 months. The sole wears down, but is replaceable.

Got a Superfeet Blue insert. Now they are the most comfortable pain free boot I ever wore.

Good inserts make a huge difference.

Another vote for Superfeet insoles. I started with the old blue ones but did my research and found the correct ones for my feet. You need to figure out what type of arch and gait you have to buy the correct one.

Consider seeing a Podiatrist. Your insurance should cover the visit.

Another vote for superfeet. They typically have a larger arch then what most shoes come with though. I have a low arch so it was a bit of an adjustment, but after wearing them regularly my feet thank me and are not sore after being in boots all day.

I use the hike for my hunting boots and also have a set of the orange work ones for my work boots.

I was diagnosed flat feet and plantar fasciitis. I bought these and they have made my feet feel so much better than any other shoe insoles I have used. God Bless !!! Smile
