Could anyone recommend a good place to stay on Sanibel in the summer months? We’ve always stayed at the Sundial and expect rates to be high during the winter, but their summer rates are currently north of $700 a night before taxes in July and August. It’s a great place to stay, but that’s ridiculous. A few third-party sites renting condos there aren’t much better, charging an extra 64% on top of the daily rate in taxes and fees. Are the other resorts going to be just as high? Are there others maintained as well as the Sundial where we won’t run into issues with ants and no-see-ums in the condo? Thanks for any suggestions.

We are staying at Compass Point on Middle Gulf Drive, just east of Sundial in July. We always book via Sanibel Rentals by Owner - A Facebook Group where all the owners are vetted and checked before being allowed to use the group. We typically save $1500 a week by doing so. There are all sorts of condos and houses for rent and owners compete for the renters. If you are on Facebook, I can send you an invite to the group. I really recommend it for the choice and value. We've stayed at Sundial 4 times in 5 years, twice booking direct with the resort, and it's starting to look a bit run down and in need of a good hard renovation. We'll be down there 23rd July for the week.

We always stayed on Estero Island. The toll over the bridge to Sanibel is $9 to get back! But you can leave for free! If you consider Estero we stayed at the Edison Beach House . All rooms are equipped with a full kitchen and washer dryer. ------------------------------------- Always the pall bearer, never the corpse.

Thank you, I'll have to check that group out. I’ve walked past Compass Point many times and always thought it looked nice. Our only concern not booking through a resort is having an issue with the unit. Even trying to go third-party at the Sundial, we ran into that back in the early 2000s where it was full of ants and no-see-ums on the 2nd story in one of the units close to Compas Point. We are open to it, but that is still in the back of our minds.
Great resort that used to be owned by the same company as the Sundial. I'll have to check them out again.
That's only 12 minutes from Lovers Key. I actually found better shells there my last trip than Sanibel. Thank you.

I will add that Edison is privately owned well maintained and walk out the back right onto the beach! ------------------------------------- Always the pall bearer, never the corpse.

??? You mean South Seas which is on the northern end of Captiva, not Sanibel?

I figured he meant South Seas. I'm open to staying close to Sanibel like the Edison House or South Seas as well.

Yeah, they want $645-1k a night, and maybe those are the prices going forward on Sanibel and Captiva through resorts. I'll stay off island.

Florida is open, you can breath without a mask without fear of retribution from Karens, restaurants, beaches, golf courses, gun ranges, stores all open. Hence everyone and their brother are coming here, we're seeing record attendance figures, the Daytona 500 is sold out, consequently, demand, supply and the current economy are hot and places like Sanibel are packed. Outside of that, come on down and enjoy your time!

I don't understand why it would be so expensive during the summer months? I would think that is when the prices go down. Florida is too hot in July and August.

That makes sense, HRK. I appreciate you solving that for me.
90% of my time in FL was in July and August. It can be brutal.

Kids are out of school. Floridians vacation a lot then. So, any beach spot is popular and expensive in summer months. Places like Orlando are not.

August is a huge month for Europeans to visit. The Germans especially as they have off that month for vacation. I live in Cape Coral nearby and almost have to speak German in the Summer. La Dolce Vita

August is not a big travel month for Floridians as school starts the second week of August and practice for fall sports starts in July. Prices are up because there’s a huge influx of people from states on the other side of the Mississippi which isn’t typical.
