That's right, the one spot in Michigan where it is Christmas 24/7/365. Actually in Au Train but snowmobiled around around that area Wednesday. Warm and rained last night so I think riding is over for the week. Yes, it really does exist. It's only 115 Miles to Paradise from there. If snow isn't your holiday thing, travel south to Christmas, Florida, just east of Bithlo Florida where the houses have wheels and the cars are on blocks.... Link This community is the home of Fort Christmas, founded during the Second Seminole War. HISTORY OF CHRISTMAS, FLORIDA On December 25, 1837, 2,000 U.S. Army soldiers arrived in this area and started building the fort. They named it for the day of their arrival. The first post office was established in Christmas in 1892. The photo below from the State Archives of Florida is probably from the 1950s or 1960s. For many years, people have been driving from all over to have their Christmas cards postmarked "Christmas, Florida". Sometimes Santa himself will sit in the lobby of the post office and personally stamp Christmas cards and packages. | |||
